If police cannot even tell which helper is a liar, how do we expect SPF to solve major crimes?
      ...
Maybe the SPF can solve major crimes because all eyes are on them, and just treat minor crimes with little care 😂

Though mine is not considered major crime but I am also a citizen and tax payer and I need police help!

When a police report has been made, at least come down to take statements lah.

Was told that the standard of the Investigation Officer (IO) varies. We called the police station almost on a daily basis, made noise until we had a new IO assigned to our case.

Sorry to heard about your predicament lee_yl.. I hope the police will apprehend the culprit soon, and that you will have better sleep then. Will pray for you and your family.

.. Meantime, do let the police know that you would like them to take the statements and investigate the people that you suspect. At times, we make a police report to make insurance claims etc and wouldn’t need any assistance from the police. So do tell them in a straight forward manner what you would like them to do. Specify clearly why you think they are “suspects” and if they have displayed any motives to steal.

          Take care![/quote]
Thank you Zeal mum for the prayers. Staying with a suspected thief under the same roof is making me worried.

Thank you for your sound advice. Tomorrow morning I will summarize the important things I would like the police to take note and tell them why I suspected the helpers.

Is good to hear that the new police Officer is pro-active, working on your case.

Is possible that both (your maid + neighbour's helper) are in cahoot together.

            Going forward,
can consider buy a safe to keep (valuables, jewellery, $ ) & install a CCTV inside this room, to capture evidence (opening safe).

When is your maid's contract ending ? Since trust has been broken & she is a suspect, let her go quickly if contract ending soon.

Is your house a 3-storey bungalow ? If u let go this full-time maid, can u manage household chores, with help from a part-time maid ?
I installed a lock for my drawer today. So far, those lose cash (we counted about $6K) plus jewelries still inside drawer, not stolen.

Not sure if we should install CCTV because we had lived w/o one for the past 20 yrs, so far nothing happened.

Not sure if the two helpers are in cahoot. Why would my helper steal from me and share with the other helper?

I also can’t say for sure if my helper is the one who stole my money. If not her but I kick her back to kampong, quite poor thing too

Sorry lee_yl, I don't mean to 危言耸听  , however, even though \"for the past 20 yrs, so far nothing happened\", this latest issue occurred.

Besides, after what has happened (police report made), we can't say for sure if that might trigger any thoughts/change in behaviour. IMO, 以防万一, you should consider CCTV option (simple ones like Xiaomi Home Security Camera should suffice).

I remember there is another suspect - the Malaysian Subcontractor who came to fix some lighting fixture so it may not be the two helpers do it. I don't think a helper will take the risk of losing her job because of getting S$500

There are several larcenies in my office for these years. Suppliers came for meeting, left his laptop in the meeting room and went out for lunch, his laptop could not be found after lunch. Colleagues put his wallet in his locker inside the changing room and were disappeared after work. Contractors took a shower in the changing room and his handphone was lost after shower. Police Reports were made for all these cases and Policemen came to the office building to take statement from most of us every time. They even checked the CCTV outside the changing room. However, until today, all these cases are still Cold Cases. So please prepare for the worst.....无头公案 again.

We explored installing a CCTV in the living room or outside main door. But it would not cover many blind spots. We can only tell who entered my house. My hubby was quite against having cctv citing privacy concerns.

For example, if helper wants to steal from my children bedroom, this will still be a blind spot. My children are also against having cctv inside their shared bedroom. I don’t mind having one as I can monitor what they are doing inside the room, 😂

The IO said that since the Malaysian subcontractor was in my house for only 15min, unlikely to be him. So he would interview the two helpers first.

My hairstylist told me two delivery men who delivered a washing machine, one of them took her gold ring in the living room while she was checking the washer with the other guy in the kitchen yard. So I guess 15 mins is enough to steal something small.

Yesterday two police officers and a photographer came down to collect evidence for my case. I told the IO that there’s another helper, staying across the street, who helped my helper and neighbor’s helper to remit money w/o my and my neighbor’s knowledge. So the 3 helpers went down to the police station to give statements. Arising from this incident, we unknowingly open up a can of worms. My neighbor and I were actually quite shocked that our helpers (with controlled access to HP and no off days) can do so many funny things behind our back.

IO said will let me know if need to arrange for the helpers to undergo polygraph test (lie detector). My neighbor and I were very disappointed why the police didn’t do it on the spot yesterday. It’s like telling you, you may have tumor but did not verify using CT scan even though the machine is available.
