For questions that asked 你同意吗... can students' answers 我不同意 if he does not agree with the character's actions, especially if the conclusion of the passage is also to support the character's actions.

Model answer only has 我同意。 THanks in advance!
I am not a tutor. Speaking as an inexperienced parent, I quite like this student’s answer. I think it is a principled and well-explained answer.

However, I believe for CL compre, such (inferential) questions require the student to answer based on the context of the passage (rather than their own opinion). If I’m not wrong, the “reasons” that student should write are shown in the first & last paragraphs of this passage. Would u mind showing us the model answer?

Based on my child’s personal experience, it is only “acceptable” (ie. will still score high marks) to give an unexpected / contrary opinion during English Oral exam.

As a side note…(half joking)…if I receive such a phone call nowadays, immediately I will think of those “kidnapping” scams, I wouldnt rush down anywhere to hand over any money 😆

The student can answer “我不同意” if that’s the correct answer based on the passage. However, based on this passage, the model answer “ 我同意“ is the correct answer.

          Oh, I’m a parent, not a tutor.

            Hi manorway,

Depending on the story content, differing views can be deemed acceptable - although most of the time, it's quite straight forward leaning towards whatever value the author was trying to emphasize.

The most recent example is 2019's PSLE Chinese Paper 2 OE Compre - for Q40 both agree and disagree were acceptable answers - provided that supporting claim/reasoning was valid and well articulated.

(Regarding model answer, I assume it's the one provided with the past year sch papers? The accuracy of the answers was previously touched on here: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1898494#p1897408 So, not to worry :))

Thanks Zeal mummy. Is it because in the first paragraph, it is stated the character wants to make full use of all chances to help people? So the correct answer is “ 我同意“ ?

Thanks Zac's mum. Me too!! I thought the kid managed to articulate well and if the question asks \"你同意吗?“, it should be asking kids for their opinions.

But from experience, I agree with you too that usually the required answer can be found in the passage. But I also think question should not be phrased as 你同意吗 but 为什么林姑姑会这么做? Model answer is about 我同意因为她想着一个偷书又不敢告诉家人,被骂而哭的女孩现在一定很怕,她不想错过每个能够帮助别人的机会。

                        Yes, manorway.

However, if the marking scheme is strict (which is highly likely since this is a higher order thinking question), the answer you shared will probably earn 3 marks instead of 4:
                        - 1 mark for agree/disagree (dependent on validity of reasons, of course)
                        - 1 mark for don't know where she is wrong at/why she shouldn't steal
                        - 1 mark for may repeat such offence/mistake again

The part about family members not knowing and not punishing her thus she won't know her mistake seems to suggest that one will only learn through punishment (which, at least in this story's context, is not necessarily true). The other consequence could be the girl might take it for granted that she will always earn a chance to correct her mistake (whereas in some cases it may be too late for regret) 女孩可能会因此以为每次犯错都会有改过的机会 or she will always be lucky and get help/aid from others when she gets herself into trouble.

For agreeing, the 3 points can go to the following reasonings:
                        - 女孩被抓到后感到害怕有泪流满面(para 3 and 4),代表她知道/意识到自己偷书的行为是不正确的
                        - 另外,她偷的是书本(para 3),所以可以看出她是一个好学/喜欢阅读的孩子
                        - 林阿姨那么做不但能够帮女孩不再被大家指指点点(para 4),又能给她一个改过自新的机会
