There is this new english tuition centre at bishan called https://thelearningtrove.com. Fees are quite reasonable at $900 for 12 lessons. Founder is Sherman Tseng, an ex HOD for english at Ai Tong school, and he also used to teach at Academia in sin ming.
Any Writing/Compo centre to recommend? Thanks.
I have also heard of this centre in Katong called https://mclass.com.sg/ that specializes in English tuition. All the teachers are former MOE scholars with teaching experience in IP & GEP schools. They provide classes from Primary 4 all the way to Junior College 2. -

students from IP/GEP should be easier to teach? Would it be better gauge of tutor if they get non IP/GEP calibre students into IP/GEP schools?

Depends. If the IP/GEP students are super smart, taking them on a lesson might feel like going for an interview

Had some egg tarts as a treat after tackling the 2019 Math paper this weekend. Planning to meet Helen and Ivan next weekend
I've always wondered whether there were any twins named Helen and Ivan late last year? :rotflmao:
Anyways, the break goes by very fast. Need to make the journey back to the primary school a few times next week, and then the week after is the beginning of the main event...
Hope everyone is making progress and doing well. -
Ah…if u splurged on egg tarts then you’d better save up all your bags of coins to simulate the Helen & Ivan story. JK JK…
My extrovert kiddo is looking forward to going back for the supp lessons coming week. I dunno what’s gonna happen to the mood when Term 3 fully kicks in…any tips for managing the kids’ stress levels if they get ramped up by the atmosphere in school? -

My goodness. When I was having holidays last time, going back to school was pure torture. I really hated the last day of the holidays. I must really find out what kind of drug they are giving to kids to make them so excited to go back to school...

On a macro level, I think just keep making sure they know it's only a one-time test and whether you do great or terrible it doesn't really matter (or only matters so much). They will still be loved and life will go on.

On a micro level, I think get them to understand there will be hard questions and some mistakes and this is a grueling process, but that not everything has to be perfect. I.e. if they can get the points they are reasonably capable of getting, then they are likely to end up with a result they are happy with.
Also, at some point adequate sleep, a healthy diet, time to relax, and a positive attitude are going to do more help than another round of revision and cramming. At the end of the day we all are who we are (limitations, faults, and all), and one just needs to give it their best shot and then let the chips fall where they may. -
It will turn out fine, brave moms! Most kids will perform at their expected levels. @SG KP1, @zacsmom

In my humble opinion, we as parents, our own internalised definition of success, be it passed down from our parents or gained through our own subjective life experiences, will often also be passed on to our children: we sometimes project our own hopes and fears onto our children. One way not to add unnecessary stress to our children may be to start with ourselves. We can first try to be equanimous in ourselves. If we are anxious, the anxiousness will inadvertently be passed on to our children during our interaction with them.
Part of the solution is we take good care of ourselves too. we may then have less negative emotions and be more balance when managing children’s studies.
