Hi Tampinian, I am registering for my girl this year. Going for phase 2C and within 1km of Poi Ching, St hilda and Gongshang. My preference is Poi Ching as it’s nearest to me. What is the possibility that Poi Ching don’t need balloting this year for ph2c within 1km. Any chance for Gongshang as well?

I think it's going to be:
        1. Poi Ching, ballot for SC < 1km
        2. St Hilda, ballot for SC < 1km
        3. Gongshang, ballot for SC < 1km

You will probably need to have a backup plan for Phase 2CS.

          That's right.

In Phase 2C, Poi Ching has required balloting under 1km for 9 years, with balloting 1-2km away in 2016. Last year, there was 195 applicants for 79 places!

St Hilda's is even worse. It required balloting <1km EVERY year since 2006. Last year, there was 118 applicants for the minimum of 20 places.

Gongshang is not much better. It also has balloting <1km every year since 2006, even though the pressure is slightly lesser, with 85 applicants for 22 places.

So, Poi Ching is probably your best bet, although with poor odds. You definitely need to have a backup plan for Phase 2CS.

Poi Ching will continue to be popular due to the new estate in Tampines North. Being a young estate, highly likely there will be many children of school going age. Poi Ching is only one of two primary schools in Tampines within 1km to that estate and it is undoubtedly the more popular one (the other school being Angsana). Hence, expect those sort of numbers to continue for a few more years.

St Hildas is extremely hard to get in. Few years back, my cousin volunteered for more than 200h only to be ballotted out at phase 2b. Maybe he’s very familiar with school mgt or maybe he’s clocked the most hours, he was first on the wait list and was successfully converted before P1 started. There were many like him who clocked likewise hours who were not successful in the phase 2b application.

Wow. Did he fail in Phase 2C also? Anyway, good for him that he finally managed to get in.
I had a colleague to who was trying for Gongshang, failed and got onto the waiting list, and was called up just before school started. So those, who failed to get in through the normal registration process, just remember to put your name down for consideration at the office. You never know.

Wait for some gurus to reply but I would think 1-2 km at Chongzheng may not even get to ballot (in 2C)?

2020 and 2021 the school ballot < 1 km with 30-33 spots available. 2019 ballot 1-2 km with 69 spots available.

Unclear how many spots will be taken up in 2B but spots available in 2C probably won't be more than 50 (and could be as low as 40).
