I am wondering is it done on purpose (that is, we hack care about COVID already) or is it an oversight by MOE. I recalled that schools used to ask students to conduct their own swab after school reopening from long holidays?


My daughter caught covid from her classmate yesterday. DD didn’t even feel anything until her classmate texted her that she tested positive then DD did her own swab and tested positive.

My neighbor, cousin’s and my friend’s children all down with covid and all caught covid from schools. I have not experienced so many children down with covid at the same timing since the start of this pandemic!

Honestly, I kind of expected this to happen especially since a lot of children went overseas for holidays in June. However I expected MOE to do something, either issue an advisory or repeated reminders to children to conduct their own swabs and to stay away from school if unwell. Sadly, we now have a preventable cluster in schools.

Same as for the common cold and seasonal flu - as along the hospitals don't fill up, and most people recover without issues, then just accept it and get on with life. Herd immunity is hard to achieve with rapidly mutating viruses, and we already accept that it isn't going to happen with colds and flu. If repeated vaccinations are required to achieve the same \"most don't end up in hospital\" immunity as colds and flu, then so be it. Maybe after repeated infections, our bodies will get more immune, just as some people seem to be more immune to colds and flu than others. There are still some people who haven't caught Covid, despite repeated close contact.

Covid is NOT THE SAME as common cold and seasonal flu. People are still dying from it without much understanding of how it attacks. It is only used as a simple explanation as analogy but it is at the same time dangerous to make people think it is harmless. I won't go to the extent of underestimating Covid's danger, it is not right to do that and make everyone stop doing the right thing which is happening to some people now. I would much prefer to educate people to exercise consideration and caution and do what is right for the better of everyone and hence self, then life goes on as if it is normal. Of course, this is much more difficult but a more accurate handling of this matter. Even the government is treading on this with caution because once we become oblivion to danger, we would be back to a severe state of Covid pandemic again. We need to balance the odds properly. And WHO has recently emphasized that the dangers of Covid is far from over. So still be cautious but lead life normally and catching Covid is never a good option, we need to be clear on that.

Hospital crunch takes time to build up, what we can do is prevent or minimize a major outbreak.

Actually I totally agree with you that MOE should watch the kids more vigilantly. Also I hope the kids are diligently wearing the masks. I am also uncomfortable with the consequences of Covid in the long term as of now.

Your dd is perfectly fine and hv no symptoms or discomfort at all?

No symptom and perfectly fine. She only got to know she was at risk after learning that the classmate sitting next to her tested positive.

I am not sure if it has anything to do with DD just getting her 3rd shot 10 days ago, thus her immune system could still be active against the virus
