Academic achievement depends more on innate ability and motivation than what school the child is in. So just make sure she doesn't lose her enthusiasm. And it isn't necessary that a \"better\" school will help her keep up the enthusiasm better than a less popular school. Family environment is also key.
will probably go for angsana and hope for the best now..no chance at all for Poi Ching. my little one is enthusiastic in learning, hopefully not shortchanging her academic ability

well D-day starts today and ends at 4pm tomorrow....good luck to all parents registering and still fighting for a spot in their second or third choice of primary schools in P1 2Cs this year. I read somewhere that there will be balloting updates from MOE on a certain date, 19 August if I am not wrong.
I would also suggest trying for Angsana in 2CS if you live nearby. With 31 spots available, it's possible the school actually ballots in 2CS this year. I don't know for sure, but I assume there are a fair number of Poi Ching 2C unsuccessful where Angsana will be the closest school (including those in the new BTOs). If you get ballot out again, I guess hope that you are allocated to Tampines North (probably next closest?)?
As others have suggested, you can try to Wait List for Poi Ching, although there may be ~100 others trying that as well.
Some schools may have a different cohort makeup (gender, demographics, religion, etc) and some schools may offer a bit more here and there. Regardless, the most important thing, irrespective of academic ability, is your child's attitude towards learning (growth mindset, resilience, etc).
Good luck with whatever school you go for in 2CS. -

Actually, for Phase 2CS, try not to depend on luck. Look at the numbers tonight. If your preferred school looks like, or is already requiring balloting, opt out and try at the next school in line that doesn't require balloting. It's better that you get to choose where you want your child to go to, rather than to leave it to MOE to assign the place.

But often the next school in line is going to be the assigned school as well, no?

If the neighborhood/planning area does not have excess capacity, I agree that it is better to take something certain nearby than risk being assigned to a galaxy far far away. However, if assigned school is likely nearby, I think OK to roll the dice, especially if the school you are aiming for is across the street/very convenient. -
For example, if you look at Tampines there were 291 kids that were unsuccessful in 2C but there are still 315 vacancies (412 vacancies if you include Changkat) across all of the schools in 2CS.
The following schools have high(er) ballot risk for 2CS:
-Tampines Primary = 5 spots
-Angsana Primary = 31 spots
-Junyuan Primary = 35 spots
If you donβt want to take ballot risk, East Spring has 55 spots (likely safe based on prior yearsβ 2CS applicants) and three other schools have 89-100 spots (Yumin, Changkat, Tampines North).
Or, if you ballot for one of the prior three listed (5-35 spots available) and are unsuccessful again, it seems like you will just be allocated to one of East Spring, Yumin, Changkat, or Tampines North? If so, then not much risk in 2CS.
I guess the caveat to this is whether there are some people that were unsuccessful in Parir Ris and/or Bedok that find some of the Tampines schools as their 2CS choice (likely due to logistics). -
OK... you do have a good point. If you are willing to take the risk of not even having the backup 3rd tier school available any more... I suppose you can \"go for it\". I'm more kiasi... so I guess it's up to that amount of risk one can stomach...

I guess just have to take the risk as seems there are still spots available in the surrounding schools. maybe luck would favor me the second time? :xedfingers:

Good luck! I would just stay in for Angsana and hope you get it.

There's really not much else to do. Per above, Angsana, Junyuan, and Tampines Primary will ballot based on the 2CS Day 1 applicants. So the choice is ballot for Angsana and if unsuccessful probably get assigned to Tampines North. Or withdraw from Angsana and go for Tampines North in 2CS. Seems to be not much risk...
Do note, there were 291 unsuccessful kids across St Hilda's, Poi Ching, Chongzheng, and Gongshang in 2C. As of yesterday, only 173 kids had registered at the Tampines schools with 2CS vacancy. I think it is possible that the Angsana and Junyuan applicants could go up, as these two schools are probably the closest option for the St. Hilda's and Poi Ching 2C unsuccessful (196 2C unsuccessful across these two schools). But I guess we'll see at 6 pm on Friday (19 Aug). Good luck again :xedfingers: -

Latest update: Angsana and Junyuan will need balloting while Tampines North & Yumin are only half filled. Out of the four, Yumin seems quite a popular school (located right beside ChongZheng) but why was Yumin only half filled while ChongZheng was fully filled during 2C registration? Does anyone has any idea?
Good luck! I would just stay in for Angsana and hope you get it.
