This is so true. My son is very weak in chinese oral. He scored 34/50 for Chinese prelim oral only. He came home from Day 2 chinese oral and commented it was difficult. He mentioned something about hols in Singapore and I said you should used Sentosa as an example. He said he doesn’t know what is Sentosa in Chinese so he used what he remembered from P4/5 textbooks. East coast park, play sand & made sand castle. 😂😂😂
My son’s command of Chinese not very good, in terms of oral. So for him, he will likely say Zoo coz that’s the easiest that he can think of. Maybe for the stronger students they will crack their brains for Sentosa or USS etc. His classmate who is usually very strong in oral didn't think about zoo and could only say Singapore beach, she didn’t know the Chinese word for the other places like Sentosa.
True enough, I asked him if he got that qn, what would he have talked about? He said 动物园。
He did his chinese on Day 1 though, different topic.
I guess it’s one of the benefits of being weaker at spoken Chinese.
I told him that’s definitely a very good example. I didn’t expect him to remember those vocabs. Lol -

Ah.. Thank you Chenlaoshi! Glad to know it wont affect marks.. 😊
Hi TryNotKiasu,
As long as the child's response after the repeated question is correct, nope, that incident alone will not cause mark deduction.
It is only when the child failed to respond appropriately after the repeated question and/or further prompts that content component of the grading will be affected. -

Hope your child did well and is ready to take on the prelims.
For the 2nd day CL oral topic, the question was 假期里你想去新加坡的什么地方?This question sounds like a question asking for a holiday destination / place of interest in Singapore (not visiting grandparents, going for tuition), that's why it is difficult, because the students may find it challenging to express the Chinese names of the places and activities. Many kids at 12 years old would think of Sentosa, Universal Studios and rollercoaster, rather than zoo and animals or gardens and flowers, but how many actually know the Chinese terms well to do a good elaboration?
The above is why I say I have no idea if the topic was easy or hard. It all depends. The truth is, hard papers will still be easy for some. At the same time, easy questions will trip up very capable kids under these conditions. It's all easy if one could do it, quite difficult if one could not.
One can say it's life if our child should have done this or that. Or, we can use the advice for the future (take it as a learning opportunity). Yet, at the specific moment in time it's not so productive when others say \"it was so simple\" when the reality is unless you were a student you did not take the test. As others have said, I guess everyone is free to share as they please. However, one could also say a bit of empathy for those who found it difficult would be more useful than anything else. Be thankful if your child found it easy; no one knows what lies ahead...
Anyways, best of luck for the remaining papers. -

To share something with everyone, I heard from other children who are excellent in Chinese and getting full score for chinese conversation is easy for them. -

We are back in the school hall too, I was wondering if this was standard now?
The P6 kids are having their Prelims (and PSLE too) en masse in the school hall with aircon on. Will probably be optional if they want to keep their masks on to be safe.[/quote]
My thought was keep the mask on 😷 until 5 Oct! But I guess we will roll with whatever... -

The discussion in our chatgroup was: please don’t lift mask mandate in schools completely, cos if so, then the Mon-Fri dress-down uniform will be scrapped accordingly
