Don't despair just yet. My take would be that his MO/SO medals are still valued.
Thanks for sharing and best of luck for DHS and PSLE. I am a bit worried now as I’ll be facing the same things next year. Few things I can infer from this - school results matters a lot and no extra points for GEP paper. An AL2 is AL2 irrespective. An Olympiad medal in itself is of no use if not among the rank holders. Too much information about the child via Masterclass or the P6 program can also be detrimental. And probably they have internal limit on number of GE kids they can take. Or probably I am just overthinking and it just boils down to how the kid performs in selection test/interview/workshop. For now, I’ll just let myself believe that all schools are good schools and a person who has to shine will shine anyhow and anywhere.
For NUSH, I think there is some chance based on the extra opportunities available to him and the selection test (and possibly the camp). If one cannot compete on overall grades or specific ranking in MO/SO, try to figure out what you can compete on. Undoubtedly, I think it is a challenge because there will be many other GEP medal winners that apply and some may be strong across the board. At the same time, I don't believe NUSH simply wants to take in the top 180 medal winners (or those with the highest grades in other subjects), there are other things they are looking for too (seems to be proven year after year but no one believes it upfront).
RI may be the most challenging (as someone said, this is perhaps the most competitive domain in all of DSA) whereas I think other IP schools will have a reasonable shot (Math or Science).
And you are correct; a person who has to shine will shine anyhow and anywhere. Good luck! -

Yes, bilingualism -
Some parents may be puzzled why I mentioned about having good overall grades. A couple of years back, just before my DD1 was preparing for her DSA, I recall reading on RGS website that those who have an overall average of 80% may apply for DSA(Academic). Similarly, on other websites like DHS, it was also mentioned that an overall average of 70% for GEP and 75% for MS may apply etc. But when it was my DD2’s turn, I think MOE may have instructed all these requirements to be removed and all I saw on various schools websites was a general statement, like “students must be able to withstand the rigour of the Integrated Program”.
So I supposed if the schools don’t look at the consistency of overall results, then how do schools gauge whether a student is able to withstand and do well in IP subsequently based on the results of 1 subject used to apply for DSA entry to the school?
That was back then. I have no idea if the different IP schools still look at overall results to shortlist candidates. And if yes, does anyone have any idea what is the range of AL scores the different IP schools are looking at? -

At RGS, AL4/AL5 PSLE result will not mean much because almost every other kid at RGS is in that score range and many are top students in their respective primary schools. At RGS, students are given plenty of opportunities to take up leadership roles. It can be school, CCA or student-led projects.
Does your daughter want the school or want the \"Leadership\" domain ? Ask her - what does she want ?
If she desires \"Leadership\" a lot, then just accept the Wait-list ( from Nanyang Girls High ).
Because
assuming that
your girl actual PSLE results released in November 2022 managed to qualify for RGS Cut off point (via S1 posting),
very, very unlikely that
she will get back her \"Leadership\" in RGS.
Why ?
Because
during DSA (RGS) ( tests cum interview ) conducted, RGS panel of DSA management already very thorough, in considering who to give out the (COs and Wait-lists) to, amongst suitable applicants. If she were to enter RGS, her past DSA application record is still with them, and all the comments by them why she is not successful for Leadership (RGS) domain, are all kept there. They can always reference back, to her existing DSA application record.
So,
tell your daughter that even if she were to enter RGS via S1 posting, in the end, she won't get back the Leadership that she want. On the contrary, be mentally prepared to join and to accept some other Cca in RGS, instead.
Also, come January,
the audition process for respective Sec 1 Cca(s) in RGS, is cut throat competition, just to alert this first.
Very, very competitive, this Cca Audition exercise (process), that the Sec 1s go through, come every Term 1 when they newly joined RGS.
Frankly,
if I were your daughter (in her shoes), if \"Leadership\" means a lot to me, I will gladly accept NYGH (Leadership) WL, and forget about RGS. But, this is my own personal opinion, only. You all don't need to agree with me. -

Thank you very much! My daughter got NJC WL and SOTA CO. So we will apply NJC followed by SOTA. Her score is not stable, hence, we don’t dare to take the risk…
Never mind. When one door closed, another door will open..
There is still \"SECOND\" chance, via the actual PSLE results, which MAJORITY of students entered by. There are many roads, different journey, all leading to Rome. Your son can still consider the dream IP school, that he desires. Perhaps your son can also consider (Victoria, National, Temasek, Catholic High ) IP schools, apart from Dunman High. -

Generally, for IP Academic it seems like AL8-AL9 is sufficient (not sure on other domains). But in some cases, it could be a couple of points away from AL6-AL7, so not sure if there is a mix of things the schools are considering?

As I mentioned elsewhere, due to the constantly changing exam schedules it seems like consistency of results becoming more volatile (or less standardized). I guess the schools probably just look at the overall scores for a couple of years even if fewer \"full exams\" (SA1, SA2).
