      Hi all,

My DS just managed to touch 80 rank points for A level. A/B/B/B
He is planning to join computer engineering at NUS or NTU.Can someone please share your opinion on this?
Can he it? And why first choice is always important?

Hi, I did not researched on the cut-off but I assume the word 'managed' is defined as you had made it to the cut-off mark.

Be wary that this does not guarantee you admission into NTU/NUS, 'managed to touch' is just the cut off point. For example, the cut-off point for medicine is 85, if the entire Singapore lets say average get 87.75, only 280 places in Med available, do you think you would even stand a chance?

There was one year, 2017, which a student miraculously got into Medicine by 85 rank points, that was a such rare occurrence that I would even call it a 'miracle' as others would had been scoring above 85.

For your case 80 is the cutoff. I wish you the best as not to burst your bubble, but you have to write a very convincing what I mean VERY convincing proposal. Lets say interview stage is given to all. You would have to get merely full marks. This would let you to become a 87.75 rank point student who has did badly for his interview stage.

I wish you the best of luck. May you strike miracle.

However, that would only be implemented with your portfolio after your first try of admission which means that you got rejected the first try. The second one is going to be very tough for the 'people' to get convinced.

Could any parent shred some lights on early admission into nus? My DD1 has been recommended by her JC for early admisssion & scholarship application into 4 local uni. We have a question on uni offer on early admission. If she is being offered to a nus course she has applied during this early admission but later choose to apply to nus again during the regular admission excercise (if she has not accepted the offer), after A levels results are released. Would the early admission offer lapse on the following scenarios?

                1) when she is being offered another nus course she has applied during the regular admission applicaion? or

                2) lapsed the very moment she sent out her nus course application during the regular admission excercise?

Does acceptance of the offered early admission course offer or leaving the offer opened affect the regular admission application? Thanks.

(P.S. DD1 choice couse is NUS Law but Law is explicitly excluded for early admission excercise)

Please check with specific university on their requirements. If I didn’t recall wrongly once you apply for EAE, you might not be able to apply during regular admission since you have been deemed to have applied. Your Acc somehow might have been locked. I can’t recall which university is it but it did happen to us.

Thanks Imp75, will check on this with the uni. JC-School counsellor is not sure also, mentioned rules differ year-to-year.

Are you referring to EASE? I understand from my child, for those keen to apply Law and Medicine next year, they cannot apply EASE because if they are selected, they wont be apply to apply when time comes. Is it correct?

My DDi confirmed with her JC that she can still apply q different course in Mar24 but has to give up her EA placement n scholarship if awarded with the Uni at NUS. The offer is forfeited upon her application in Mar in the same uni. For SMU, it is slightly different. She is able to apply LAW as 1st choice under EA. It will be KIV until her A level result is out. She will be given priority in the EASE application in this case, so I suppose she need not apply again In Mar 24.
