Any guesses as to the date for release of PSLE results? I have it in my calendar as ~24 Nov 2022.

Seems like some schools planned their open houses for 12 and 19 Nov, ie before the results.

I think the results the last two years were released on Wed, so maybe 23 Nov this year.

I thought the open houses would be on the 26th, but I may be remembering wrong (i.e. some always before the results).

Thanks. Yes several on 26th as well.

I always thought, strategy-wise, that the popular schools should have theirs *before* the results come out, while the less popular ones should target that one prime Saturday just after results come out.

But I may be wrong. Seems like the less popular ones are doing it via direct outreach in the neighborhood/school cluster & one even provides bus (like an excursion) for nearby P6 to tour the secondary school.

They are missing out on kids further away but willing to travel, especially if school is next to MRT station.

Our school has three days of talks with secondary schools and there is a \"Fair\" at one of the nearby primary schools another day (15 secondary schools with booths, etc).

Will see how many others have an open house, either on the 19th or 26th...

It’s quite creepy that ours has only had the 2 affiliated secondary schools (3 if u wanna count the international one) extend outreach talks/open houses.

May be low bang for the buck for others to put up a sales pitch there? Wouldn't most of the boys select one or the other? Of course, a few will try something new but they will probably be more active to search out on their own.

I think a lot of the kids kind of know where they want to go, just need the results slip to see if likely to qualify. If at the COP (and likely need to ballot), then need to put some thought into the remaining choices...

There was some talk among the top few classes that if PSLE result falls between the IP COP and OP COP, should they forsake the affiliation and pick another IP school. My immediate rejoinder was, (alumnus) father allow meh? And the mums: “exactly the problem”.

I see, hadn't thought of that. I was guessing the force is still strong; many would go and try to transfer across (to IP) at some point.

Maybe SJI IP(IB), if it stays at AL8, soaks up the most \"defectors?\"

Any kids also eyeing the SIE schools (if the SIEs open up)?

In the science paper of the Primary School Leaving Examination on Oct 4, there was a question about mosquito breeding on human waste.

The question has been debated extensively on social media. It asked why the mosquito was attracted to lay eggs on human waste. The subsequent question asked why the mosquito was attracted by the smell.

Mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant water. After doing some research,

I have not found any evidence of mosquitoes breeding on human faeces.

In fact, there is some evidence suggesting the contrary.

In a study conducted on mosquito larval habitats in the African country of Benin in 2022, there was a significant negative correlation between larval productivity and faecal coliform concentration (degree of faecal contamination of water).

As an educator myself, I appreciate the approach taken by the education system in testing pupils on real-world applications of scientific concepts.

Due to real-world complexity, it is understandable that the assumptions behind some questions may be contentious.

A clarification of the question from the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board would go a long way towards allaying anxiety felt by pupils and parents.

Nobody knows what exactly the question asked (I think there were 3 parts). Based on what my DS was taught, the introductory words describing the scenario, as well as the diagram, as well as all the labels, will give clues as to how to answer. I have a feeling the answer has nothing to do with the traditional line “mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant water”. This is an application-type qn that is novel, ie never asked before (which has been increasingly popular coming out in recent years).


We are not privy to the entire qn, unless some science whiz kid is able to reproduce that entire qn for us. However the kids are probably occupied with their gaming or vacations right now.
