Does anyone know what Chinese language is like for the GEPpers? I was told P4 lessons are similar to P5 level, P5 is similar to P6.

They use the same textbook for higher chinese. Eg P4 GEP uses P4 HCL textbook. They just go more in depth. They use the same activity book too, but my child’s teacher skips some of the writing practice in the activity book and does the writing practice in an exercise book instead. It takes my child one hour + to finish one chapter of Chinese writing (used to take 2 hrs) but could be just him writing slowly. On top of that there are additional worksheets for Chinese for each chapter.

No, it is optional. We opted for normal Chinese for my son (non SAP gep centre). However, they take what is known as GEP Chinese which is basically normal Chinese taught at a higher level. E.g. their ting xie list is much more difficult than mainstream Chinese.

In your son’s non SAP centre, does the Chinese teacher give them writing homework that requires an hour or more to complete? How about other subjects? Any lengthy homework? Thanks.

What do you mean by writing homework? Occasionally they need to do Chinese compo corrections, but they only need to do a full rewrite if the original compo was not well-written. I don't think the Chinese homework is excessive in my DS' school.

Any parents whose child is in GEP and the child’s previous school was a non academic focussed school with very minimal homework? Could you share if it was really quite a jump since GEP?
