Me Time!

Ytd, the Chinese Embassy here announced that SIN-PEK and SIN-CTU direct flights are now open for booking. But Chengdu rail station is closed for a 4-year upgrading...so I cannot take the train to Chongqing.


My main concern is foreigners might be locked down suddenly while shopping in some mall. As soon as they discover 1 case, they will lock down the whole place to swab every shopper or diner. And if we want to take the HSR or intercity buses to another city from Beijing or Chengdu, do we need to download some Chinese health tracking app? They have some kind of 健康二维码.

I don't think I would want to visit China even after their 两会 in March 2023. I've a few cities in Northeast China like Changchun that I badly wish to cover (since 2019!) :frustrated:

That is my main concern too. We lived through the SARS restrictions which were nowhere as bad as Covid has been, and I don't want a repeat.

Long weekend coming up! My girls are happy, but it makes very little difference to my husband and me as we are now freelancers.

For me, I still have a few things to finish up by end of next week before abandoning work for 2 weeks, and also need to check that I have everything I need for the vacation. I've already taken all the cool-weather clothing out and washed them (after 3+ years in storage), and will need to replace some items like medications. And a colleague has asked me to read through the draft of her Master's thesis over the weekend.

Lol. I’ve read hundreds of thesis documents so far as a project supervisor. It’s easy to tell the difference between someone who just want to get the assignment over with, and someone who really CARES about the topic he/she is researching. And that’s what determines the grade.

Staying at home... read a novel, cleaning up the house or buy a boardgames and play with Zac.

As long as they are still the writer and all the ideas are theirs. There isn't a rule that you can't ask anyone to read and comment - supervisors will, anyway. And asking someone to proofread has always been acceptable as long as it is only for simple errors.

It can be a slippery slope though - some people may ask for and accept a lot more help than just comments and proofreading, and at the extreme, there are those essay writing services that promise to write the whole thesis for you! That last one, if the student is found out, will mean that the thesis gets rejected.
