My girls will be taking the H2 jap diagnostic test at year end or prob next year at J1. They are supposed to write H2 level essays for the diagnostic test, I will provide update after the test for those interested.

Thanks for all the comments! Always helpful to hear from the more experienced parents here.
Girl likes Japanese because of manga/anime, thus very motivated and did well in exams. But I guess to do it as an A level subject at H2 will need more than interest. Looking forward to hear about the Jap diagnostic test! -

So far based on sec 4 curriculum thus far, the most difficult component is listening compre ( I was rather surprised). Itβs because they speak in formal jap and was speaking so fast. Itβs not the mere mcq choose 4 answers but they are supposed to answer compre questions as the recorder played.

If she is aiming for special programs like smtp, they do look at your overall msg besides the student's performance at selection test.
Hi parents. We are trying to understand the risk of opting for only one humanities (ie triple science and IH. No other humanities). How does L2R5 result affect JC, other than the requirement to meet MSG3.0 for promotion to JC? Does it impact the class assigned or chances of getting into special programs? Thank you. -
Hi Parents, does anyone know the MSG requirement for the child to be allowed to choose triple science for Sec 3? Thanks in advance π

\"obtained 75.00% - 100.00% in 2022 S2 OVR AND scored 70.00% or better for SCIENCE in 2022 S2 OVR\"
You can see all the requirement listed in NYGH Portal. Quoted above is the requirement for triple science and two humanities (3S2H). The requirement for 3S1H is slightly lower are 60% for overall and 70% for science.
I think the school stopped using MSG for subject requirement for sec 3 after some parents complained that it's not fair. ( I heard from my girl - not too sure how true this is. ) -
:thankyou:
