The COE went up for motorbikes. According to the article it is a huge jump from $3000 6 months ago to $12000 for renewal next month.[/quote]
      Correction:
      \"$3000 6 years ago to $12000 (this month)\".

The base price of a moped or scooter is less than $3,000. The price of the piece of paper to have an opportunity of owning it costs 4x more :siao:

:salute: I think it is time to list the average price of a car against the current COE, so that we can all see how ridiculous this scheme has become.

            Note the magic formula :

            Price at showroom =
            (Omv x 2.4 )+ coe + dealers margin

If the scheme is ridiculous, then don’t buy car lah…just call a cab or grab or take bus and MRT.

Well for some it is their livelihood. Taxi, grab, food delivery, pte school transport, etc. For those who are corporate client reps, having their own transport makes it easier for them to zip around meeting with clients.

My handyman had to give up his truck because of rising cost of owning one and the high COE. While he saved on the cost of owning and maintaining his vehicle, his earnings have dropped too as he is unable to respond as fast and effectively as before where he has all his tools in his truck and whatever is not available he can easily drive out to buy them. I asked him if the savings covers the drop in income, he says for now yes. It is also no joke lugging his tools around and taking public transport. I told him time to slow down and consider retiring. He say yes about time, not getting any younger.

                  The problem is…
PHV and Taxi also require COE to purchase. The cost to purchase such vehicles will ultimately be passed on back to the consumer,

We recently had a Grab driver with a new BMW i7. My kid asked maybe a Rolls-Royce or Bentley will take her to school soon? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Actually for a family with a few young kids in tow, having a car is quite the essential for the family to move about.
Some professions also required a car if there are equipment to lug about. Public transport, even taxis sometimes do not take you to the exact place.

When something come to a ridiculous point yet salaries are stagnant, it is no longer just about taking alternative options, we gotta look hard and deep to see if something can be done to stop the COE from inflating so fast. If there is an alternative to help everyone earn more money to cope with the inflation, then that's fine too. 😄
