Ours is also in school hall and both parents allowed in. On that day, I guess whether the kids get their results before 11.45am, depends on the P. Some Ps tend to drone on and on… I think mine will be like that especially considering he is leaving…

The issue is not how MOE disseminate the results, it should be the ways how parents or the students face the results.
For DH, he was not nervous about DS's PSLE result because he knew that DS would be offered a place in a secondary school (any school near us would be fine), so whether the disseminating was via on-line or direct give to DS - both were fine. The most important was getting the result and went for big feast and movie afterwards.

I was waiting my ToTo result last night but even it was announce via radio or online or newspaper this morning, I am also happy. 😄[/quote]
I think most of us have a certain pathway that we want our kids to follow ideally and at the end of the day, the kids must be able to afford the lifestyle that they want the next time. In a meritocratic society here where emphasis is placed on measurable outcome to progress (ie education) for allocation of scarce resources like college/tertiary placements, it is not surprising why results release days can be nerve wrecking.

But whether our kids want to follow the so called \"rules of the games\" of a meritocratic society? I want do not mean my DS wants. PSLE results does not mean everything, my DS could still pursue his tertiary education according to his interest and now is working in a field which he wants to be.

When I was small, I was frustrated when my exam results were poor and was taught that according to the \"rules of the games\" of a meritocratic society - I would not be able to have a good lifestyle. In hindsight, I would never let any of my tears drop if I know how good my present life is even the \"rules of the games\" are not followed.

I agree with you it’s totally up to the kids. I do feel a sense of parental responsibility to call out consequences of decision made. I do not want my kids to rely on me if they can’t afford the lifestyle they want the next time and this is also spelt out very clearly.

For us, we didn't spell out anything but DS had been working for part-time jobs during his school holiday when he wanted to replace a new handphone or PC.

By the way, please don't misunderstanding that I am asking kids not to study hard for exam. As a student, it is their responsibility to study hard at school and do well in their exams. What I want to against - are those negative emotions e.g. nervous, anxious, pressure, etc. suffering by kids and parents before and after the exams.

Unfortunately, anxiety is a part of life. As parents, we’ve seen both sides of that coin. We were young students once and we know what life is like and how "important" these exams are. But, we remain anxious. We remain concerned. We will continue to exert pressure on our children to do better. We will say that today’s generation is different from ours. We will convince ourselves (and our children) that our children’s fight is tougher than ours.

I don’t think it’s wrong to be anxious. What is wrong is allowing anxiety to consume us and our children. Finding that balance is something which we struggle with - I know I do. But that’s where tapping on our years of experience is helpful and realizing that this exam is just a step in a long journey.

The PSLE does not and should not define our children, and reminding them (and ourselves) of this is a must.

Received this from my DD's parent support group - I think this is their second time this year, they are covering the 4 foreign languages at MOELC (French Jpn Spanish German). Sharing in case anyone is interested. Thought it was quite good last year, it's free.
