Yes, East Malaysia can be fairly uncertain. Unlike Peninsula Malaysia, both Sabah and Sarawak have very genuine 3rd party coalition / alliance in their state that can counter the PH and BN coalitions. As such, whichever coalition that the third party decides to partner with after the votes are cast (even PN), has a genuine chance of forming the next government.

I have my doubts that PH can persuade GPS (Sarawak) and GRS (Sabah) to join them… unless the new government promises to restore the full rights of the Sarawakians and Sabahans. While such an offer will make it difficult for both parties to reject, it will result in a promise that is nearly impossible to fulfill given that any coalition government is not going to garner more than 2/3 seats required to amend the constitution. -

In that last article, it is said \"it’s an opportune moment for Sabah and Sarawak to pile on the political pressure while the Perikatan Nasional-led government is at its weakest\". Even more true today. Sabah and Sarawak are able to make requests that neither PH nor PN can ignore because the new 'anti-hopping law' means Borneo are real kingmakers in every sense of the word. Secession is unlikely but both Sabah and Sarawak will definitely have more autonomy in the Constitution as envisaged in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement. -
Personally, I hope they are given more autonomy (disclaimer: I had lived in the East Malaysia for a few years and is thus biased in my thinking
). Sabah and Sarawak are not 'states' as envisaged in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement. They are on equal standing as Peninsula Malaysia (aka the Federation of Malaya) and Singapore. Sadly, when Malaysia expelled Singapore, they also downgraded Sabah and Sarawak to being a 'state' in an amendment that came into force in 1976. There are a number of problems within both states that cannot be solved, and both states cannot improve, if they continue to be tied to the politics and nonsense going-on in Peninsula Malaysia.
A little known bit of history. A big reason why Sabah and Sarawak are in Malaysia is due to Singapore, or more specifically, LKY. https://www.nas.gov.sg/archivesonline/data/pdfdoc/lky19620203a.pdf, North Borneo (as Sabah was then called) Chief Minister in Jesselton (now known as Kota Kinabalu) to discuss about the formation of Malaysia and the benefits. Both LKY and Donald Stephens see the formation of Malaysia as a federation of different countries (namely, Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei, which rejected the 'opportunity' to join) Beyond the economics, LKY wanted the others to join as it would bring the ethnic make up of Malaysia to a more equitable level (i.e. less Malay centric). Henceforth, the wheels of Sabah and Sarawak joining the Federation were set in motion. Unfortunately, when Singapore was expelled, Malaysia PM refused Sabah's request to review its involvement in Malaysia. As a result, they continue to be a part of the country, and subsequently 'downgraded' to being a state. -

I find the 陈时中 and 周玉蔻 saga lagi entertaining
The standard of their politicians is so low that Singapore’s very own Roy Ngerng and Han Hui Hui would look very high standard over there.
It will be interesting to see how many of the favourites (judging from those 民调 - although some seems manipulated) end up losing.
