My DD decided this plan:
AL 8
Eligibility: HMTL and MSP as 3rd lang
1. SCGS IP COP’21=8
2. CHIJ SNGS O lev COP’21=9(M)
3. SCGS O lev COP’21=8
4. CHIJ TPY COP’21=10
5. St Margaret’s COP’21=11
6. Paya Lebar MGS COP’21=11
(Btw I saw someone posted Paya Lebar MGS COP is 13, where did u get this from?)
Is this the best plan? :imcool: :boogie:
Please comment thank you 🙏🙏 -

In addition to the two bonus points being able to travel, I think the other considerations are:
I see. Thanks, decision is clear then.[/quote]
a) MSP can also be used in the R1 slot, which is the one kids are usually \"forced\" to put in one of their humanities. If like humanities, then no problem, but the humanities choice in upper secondary has been discussed for this reason. On the other hand, if for some reason one likes MSP and is doing well you can kill two birds with one stone.
b) Are 2 CCA bonus points highly likely to secure if one is just active (i.e. show up every week) and good attitude? Or, are things needed beyond this? Just wondering if there is any luck with what CCA the child gets allocated to / enthusiasm / availability of other opportunities within the CCA.
I've also wondered whether MSP is pitched at a somewhat easier level than other Third Langs (it's something MOE wants to promote; no good to have everyone drop out). Still, any additional language takes time and it is not easy for all.
My gut says your current learning is correct (just focus on the core, reduce travel time, etc). Just throwing out some other factors / there may be some option value from trying and see how it goes. -
My son (Singapore Citizen) has AL15 and we are staying in Punggol.
Any comments on the below choices?
Edgefield - 14
Holy Innocent - 15
Bowen - 16
Pei Hwa - 16
Yusof Ishak - 17
Greendale - 18
My concerns are more of the travelling distance if he gets into Holy Innocent or Bowen. Believed these 2 schools are not too bad based on reviews. Any advices? -

The special case 6 / additional 2, is also for CLEP (and possibly also for TLEP). You probably singled out MLEP thinking that it has some criteria like MSP/CSP where if you have taken Chinese at PSLE, you can’t take CSP (or Malay at PSLE means no MSP). But for CLEP, it would be for those who have taken Chinese with specific min grades at O level or IP equivalent. But yes, the xLEP additional 2 points are only for those JCs that offer that xLEP.
As https://www.moe.gov.sg/post-secondary/admissions/jae/admission-criteria:
You can get a maximum of 4 bonus points from a combination of any of these types:
Chinese or Malay (Special Programmes) or Bahasa Indonesia grade
A1 to C6
Admission to JC or MI: 2 bonus points
Hence, if you are already getting 2 from affiliation and 2 from CCA, MSP won't be able to net you any additional bonus. HOWEVER, if you are not thinking about the affiliation JC, MSP will come into play.
The ADDITIONAL 2 bonus points are for Malay Language Elective Programme (MLEP) and only for these JC (which offer the programme):
Jurong Pioneer, National, Raffles, Tampines, Yishun -

There’s a separate letter that came with the results, in an envelope. In there are the details of DSA, ESIS, HMT, 3rd language eligibility, etc. I didn’t know as well and didn’t open up till later.

HIHS is in Hougang (Upper Serangoon Road)
Bowen is in Hougang.
What kind of 'travelling distance' are we talking about?
Secondary schools are not like primary schools. It is reasonable to expect some kind of travelling. Furthermore, there are direct bus / MRT from Punggol to both schools. IMHO, it's probably a better idea to look at 'fit' rather than distance. -

Yeah, my DS' letter doesn't have HMT, not that he'd want to pursue it

There are other categories he can choose from but it's a bit disappointing that he cannot pick 2 languages from the same category.

Thanks. As we cannot go to SAP schools, our choices at AL8 is limited.
Assuming this year’s COP remains the same as last year’s, and your top 3 choices are SCGS IP, SCGS O and MGS O, I think the chances of your daughter getting in the above 3 are slim. For your 4th choice, pick one with COP 9 or 10.
Based on last year’s experience, most who are on COP borderline got balloted out due to significantly more applicants than vacancies. Really depends on one’s luck. I have a feeling MGS IB will move up by 1pt and this may indirectly cause MGS O level to be pushed up by 1pt too.
Maybe you can update us about your DD’s sec 1 posting result. We will cheer for you
I could choose Cedar O-, but the school is far-far away from home and doesn't make sense.
Last 2 choices are Swiss cottage (stone throw distance from home) and Bukit Panjang.
Let us hope for the best.
Any statistics about balloting (among SC?)
Also, most schools have a process for appealing. How it works out (if we get balloted out and still trying through appeal)? -

For my boy, where he is going, I think no choice need to take HMT. But what’s the criteria to get the option for HMT?

Oh I didn’t noticed that as well. Do u know if they can drop out anytime, 3rd language.
Does anyone know what is the cop for ESIS this year?
