      Quote from MOE website: https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle-fsbb/posting-to-secondary-school/faqs.html#s1-posting

“At the 2021 S1 Posting Exercise, the overall proportion of students who underwent computerised balloting was around 1 in 10, and the proportion of students who were posted to one of their six school choices remains at above 90%. These figures are consistent with past years.”

Could you explain what happened to the remaining 10% students whom didn’t get their 6 choices at all and get balloted to any vacant schools anywhere in the island….
(for ex, AL7 got Whitley ;no offense to the school) what went wrong? How to avoid this?
10% is quite big margin, big enough to make a foreign mom like myself not be able to sleep,
since preparing for AEIS then entered SG (unpopular) primary school without affiliation
until now 😂 it sounds like a nightmare :nailbite: :frustrated:
E.g., Student with PSLE Score AL12. It is guaranteed as long as any of the student's 6 choices is AL13 or higher (actual COP for 2023 Sec 1 Intake).

To avoid not getting any of the 6 choices, play safe for the 5th and 6th choice.

      All the best.

Since Hua Yi is your child's dream school, you should put it as first choice. Who knows, the COP may change from 16 to 17 this year.

Do play safe for 5th and 6th choice (e.g. COP of 20 to 22).

        All the best.

That's the dilemma we are in now.. it's either my child gets the dream school or one choice wasted.

        Tough decision.
If it's your child's dream school, it is not wasted. There is a chance that the COP will go higher or lower any year (especially +1 or -1).

Imagine if the COP of Hua Yi changes from 16 to 17 this year and you did not put the school as your first choice

Agree with coast, that it is not wasted as it is your child’s dream school.

The remaining 10% of the students probably made their choices without any parental assistance nor consultation with KSP forum. (!!) Likely, they had put all the 6 choices, either above or equals to the T-scores / AL scores they had achieved. And got balloted out of the 6th choice.

To avoid such a situation of not getting any of the 6 choices, use your 5th and 6th choice as safety nets, by choosing schools that are at least AL+3 / AL +5. (Fluctuations are higher when AL score is more.)

              All the best.

Then which one the school with select AL 10 2nd choice or AL 12 as first choice ?[/quote]
                  Academic merit comes first

                  Someone explained like this:
Your kids' results are QUEUE tickets.

The best AL4 kids will get the honour to choose first whatever schools they choose on 1st option
Follows by AL5 kids, AL6 kids and so on
If SAP schools the order will be AL6(D), AL6(M), AL6(P), AL6 then AL7(D), AL7(M), AL7(P) and so on

If there are limited seats for plenty of AL6 kids in one school, let's say RI, tie-breakers will be applied in the following sequence:

                  Citizenship
Singapore citizens SCs will be sorted first, followed by Permanent Residents PRs, and Foreigners will be the last
So it can be said PRs and foreigners with AL6 may not have a chance.

Next sequence will be \"Order of school choice\"
AL6 kids - SC - chose RI as 1st choice will get priority than who chose it as 2nd choice

Last sequence will be \"Computerised balloting\"
Let say there are still limited seats for plenty of AL6 kids - SC - chose RI as 1st choice, then Computerised balloting will be conducted.

So yes, AL10 kid put as 6th choice will get priority than AL12 kid put as 1st choice

In SAP school, AL9 kid without HCL put as last choice will come first than AL10(D) kid put as 1st choice

Based on last year COP, balloting at AL6. You stand a better chance as you’re a Singaporean. All the best!

Sorry may I know what does it mean balloted out on 1st choice and why? And where do these students go? (Usually super top schools like top 10?) thanks a lot

I heard that rumour too last year,BUT whatever calculation I made, it didn't make sense.
Let say a girl with AL7 w/o HCL made this order
                        1. RGS AL6
                        2. NYGH AL7(D)
                        3. SNGS IP AL7(P)
                        4. MGS IB AL7
                        5. NJC AL7
                        6. DHS AL8(D)
The girl would have been posted to DHS

The most possible scenario could be if a girl with AL8(D) chose the above scenario. As she put DHS as last order and DHS might have already closed door for kids with AL8(D) who put as 2nd choice

After Sec1-posting results was received, she could appeal DHS as she had the same AL as its COP
BUT DHS might decline her as she put as 6th choice. It might be only kids chose as 2nd & 3rd only who got the chance for appeal

Choose the option wisely, gamble 1 school with -1AL from your kid result is okay but make sure put at least 1school with +2 or +3AL.
Only 1 school +1AL as a safety net is not enough, as COP can change and your kid may not get any school of his/her choices.
