Yes, such choices do exist sadly. I have seen children and some parents putting in choices with COP <AL 8 but child has AL 9.
…
I heard that rumour too last year,BUT whatever calculation I made, it didn't make sense.
Let say a girl with AL7 w/o HCL made this order
1. RGS AL6
2. NYGH AL7(D)
3. SNGS IP AL7(P)
4. MGS IB AL7
5. NJC AL7
6. DHS AL8(D)
The girl would have been posted to DHS
The most possible scenario could be if a girl with AL8(D) chose the above scenario. As she put DHS as last order and DHS might have already closed door for kids with AL8(D) who put as 2nd choice
After Sec1-posting results was received, she could appeal DHS as she had the same AL as its COP
BUT DHS might decline her as she put as 6th choice. It might be only kids chose as 2nd & 3rd only who got the chance for appeal
Choose the option wisely, XXXXX 1 school with -1AL from your kid result is okay but make sure put at least 1school with +2 or +3AL.
Only 1 school +1AL as a safety net is not enough, as COP can change and your kid may not get any school of his/her choices. -

This foreigner with AL8 will get in based on merit if the COP remains at 9M. Citizenship only comes into play in a balloting situation.
Wow this is easier to digest thank you so much
What happened with this scenario:
Foreigner AL8 with no HCL (eligibility HTML) going to SAP school O lvl (within 1km from home) with COP 4(M)-9(M) put as 1st choice chance? -

My DD case
Yes, such choices do exist sadly. I have seen children and some parents putting in choices with COP <AL 8 but child has AL 9.[/quote]
Foreign AL8 no HCL, eligibility HTML &MSP as 3rd lang
She dreamt to go to any IP school anywhere but the hope now dashed, she doesn’t want to waste her 1st choice to try something that is very risky (after reading this forum)
So she gives up IP and it’s kinda sad
I would have still supported her to use her “ticket” wisely or to try that risky move tho if she wants to
Afterall is the achievement & hard work is hers
and she deserves it
Most likely she will go with this option:
1. CHIJ SNGS O 4M-9M (nearest from home)
2. SCGS O 7-8
3. Cedar O 5-9
4. CHIJ TPY 7-10
5. St Marg 8-11
6. Crescent girl 5-11 (farthest frm home) -
Hi parents, could you advise the benefit (if any) of taking higher Chinese if child goes into ACSI IB track at year 1?

If the COP remains the same AL9(M), yes has chance for the foreigner with AL8 w/o HCL.
Wow this is easier to digest thank you so much

BUT remember, COP shown in MOE website is LAST year COP
This year may change up/down or may stay the same, and NOBODY knows even MOE 😂 -

If he passes HCL O level exam on year 4, he can choose other languages on year 5-6
Hi parents, could you advise the benefit (if any) of taking higher Chinese if child goes into ACSI IB track at year 1?
From ACSI website:
In selecting a subject from Group 2: Language Acquisition, the student may choose:
Chinese B, English B, Malay B, Tamil B, Hindi B at Standard Level
OR
Spanish ab initio*
French ab initio*
Mandarin ab initio*
* To offer Language ab initio, students must have obtained a D7 grade or better for the GCE ‘O’ Level Higher MT exam. Otherwise they will be required to sit for the GCE ‘A’ Level H1 MT exam. -

Here are my thoughts, others can offer differing opinions. I don't think taking HCL in IP IB confers the benefit of \"dropping HCL\" in JC like the A Level track. If you can pass the HCL O Level exam, you do not need to take Chinese in JC (IB Year 11-12), but you still need to take something from the \"Language Acquisition\" category.

So, I think if really like Chinese and want to learn as much as you can, take HCL. In IB Year 11-12 I am not 100% sure what option exist to still continue with Chinese or if the student will need to take the ab initio (beginner level) foreign language for two years.
In contrast, if not really a fan of Chinese / not best subject but eligible (i.e. could pass it but will need to put in a disproportionate amount of time), I think most will recommend just stick with normal CL in secondary school. The track in IB Year 11-12 should be SL Chinese B (\"standard level\"), and supposedly this is quite manageable for most students.
Either way, I guess just let the child decide if he has a strong feeling one way or the other. -
