I don’t think they can force the last batch not to sit for O Level, although the sensible option would be to exit via PFP. However, it could remove the privilege of a handful of late boomers who want to go for JC / A Level. My guess is the O Level will go on for another year to benefit this group as well as any possible repeats from 2026 O Level batch.

Given the uncertainty, it’s only logical to announce the plan for this group, as well as for the first batch under the new scheme, as soon as possible. Next year seems to be the only window left as the entire cohort of 2024 Sec 1 will be impacted. They can’t possible decide between G1 /2 /3 without understanding the implications.

Based on what we know so far, that would very much seem like the case.

2023 Sec 1 NA will sit for their N Level in 2026 and O Level in 2027.
2024 Sec 1 G2 will sit for a common national exam in 2027.

I'm wondering why this isn't discussed much so far.

So my guess
2023 Sec 1 NA will sit for their N Level in 2026 and common national exam in 2027.

What?! Both O- and N-level sit for the same exam? How to? I thought the idea of segregating the levels was to teach the kids at their most comfortable level. Why make them sit for the same exam?

A new common national examination with G1, G2 and G3 for each subject (somewhat akin to H1, H2 and H3 for common A-Level).

The G1 level will correspond to today’s Normal (Technical) standard, G2 to Normal (Academic) and G3 to Express.

If the Sec 1 Express cohort next year repeat their O Level, they will also have 2 different certs.

Not a big issue actually.

I have 2 separate O level certs because I took O level CL in 1993, then O level HCL + 7 other subjects in 1994. I believe all those kids on O level track in SAP schools still receive their certs this way today.

If the dates remain unchanged, then it looks like an end to the \"tradition\" of PSLE oral being on Thursdays & Fridays. Was wondering if 2022 was a one-off.
