I’m considering HCL too. Any feedback on HCL?

Perhaps you could share what the short/ mid term objective/(s) of having HCL tuition would be. Would it be :
(a) raising the child's interests in the Chinese language ?
(b) raising the child's grades in time for psle ?
(c) keeping the option for him/ her to take HCL in secondary school, in non-SAP environments with tuition ?
(d) keeping the option for him/ her to take HCL in secondary school, in non-SAP environments without tuition ?
(e) keeping the option for him/ her to take HCL in a SAP environment with tuition ?
(f) keeping the option for him/ her to take HCL in a SAP environment without tuition ?
(g) something else which I inadvertently left out ?
Understanding this is important because fulfilling that/ those objective(s) is very dependent on :
(1) how long a runway there is from now (which year is your child in ?）till reaching that/ those objective(s)
(2) the current issues that your child is facing and how severe they are. E.g. There are parents who are happy with a pass in HCL comprehension (maybe because marks are pulled up in essay writing), and there are parents who fret without an overall HCL distinction.
(3) whether there are conflicts between more than one objective.
(4) what level of interests does your child have in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing for a start ?
There are no lack of resources out there but it is my view that for Chinese, there should be at least one parent journeying with the child whether he/ she eventually gets help externally or otherwise.

SINGAPORE: Primary 1 students will have a new mother tongue curriculum from next year (2024), Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing announced on Saturday 26 Aug 2023.


The refreshed curriculum, which will be rolled out progressively, will involve the use of more games and technology during lessons.

Not very sure whether change in “curriculum” = change in syllabus = change in primary school textbooks?? Can’t be right? The textbooks just changed a short few years ago only!

The last change (syllabus/textbook) was 2015 (for 2020 PSLE), so almost a decade? Also, the existing syllabus/books will still be used through 2028 for this year's P1s.

Not sure how this compares to the how often the other subjects are refreshed/changed.
