Not much difference for us as we hardly buy anything anyway. I will probably buy 2-3 snack items if I don't get any as gifts. Reunion dinner will be the same as usual as we there were only 11 of us last year (3 in the household and 8 guests), and no change this year. But both my brother's family and mine will be able to visit my parents at the same time, we won't need deconflict visits with cousins etc, and extended family gatherings can resume. Essentially, it's back to the pre-Covid SOP.
CNY 2023 is just round the corner (ok, less than a month).
With no more 4, 6, 8 or 10 pax per table, per visit per day etc, how do you plan to celebrate esp this coming CNY falls on a super long wkend?
What to you plan to buy? -
I have been cutting down on gifting quite substantially over the years and even more so this year as will not be re-starting it again after not giving for last 2 years.
LNY goodies will be delivered to me on 7 and 8 Jan so will that weekend will be hectic.
Some of the kids in the (extended) family have gone / leaving for overseas studies so there will be fewer members around.
This had been a very hectic year at work for everybody so nothing discussed on reunion dinner or 初一 visitation(s). Last year had been more relaxed with reduced visitations due to the restrictions. Will be good if can maintain. -
Mine is getting simpler and simpler.
Reunion dinner: my younger sis will prep and all gather to eat with dad.
Reunion lunch: dh’s siblings will settle and we will eat with fil.
Day 1: visit my dad, then fil, go chapel for my mum, then temple for my mil.
Day 2 and Day 3: most likely at home. -
Our family & DH’s side of the extended family firm just 10 pax. So manageable. My own family mostly in UK or Downunder.
-
I still have my parents’ and pil’s generation of relatives for visitations.
A key difference for me in buying LNY goodies gifting is switching from cookies to roasted cashews, baked almonds and walnuts. No macademias cos too hard nor pistachios cos of the shells.
For myself, just getting pineapple tarts and bak kwa to 应节
DD not around. Only sibling lives overseas so key is 长辈拜年 -
Ours will be simple for this year too.
-
We haven’t got anything planned! Will assume the pre-covid days are back? So we will likely do what we did then… day1, in-laws and day2, visit my parents and siblings will be there as well. Day3 for close friends.

Almonds can be very hard too? I stopped eating whole almonds after I had a cracked tooth! My dentist told me to avoid whole almonds and switch to chopped/flaked almonds, or switch to other nuts like walnuts, cashews and peanuts.

I went on a CNY shopping spree at JEM/Westgate
