Do something that we will not have much chance to do next time..also can earn how difficult to earn the money, learn to communicate with customers and experience how is it working under people.
I agree with this for most kids. My younger girl's first temp job (after A levels) was selling CNY goodies for one of those booths at Taka. 8 hours on her feet, 5-6 days a week, but only for 1 month. She decided to try, and we encouraged her, because we were fairly sure she wouldn't be doing retail work later on in life, and we felt it was a good experience. She didn't enjoy every minute of it, and was very tired, but overall she feels it was good for her.

On the other hand, we felt this kind of environment would be too hard for my older girl to cope with, given her limitations. All her internships and temp jobs have been carefully chosen and arranged for her, as her \"range\" is limited.

And we also try to avoid kids to do something ‘boring’ in the job they aspire, I guess…if say 1 or 2 mths, usually we seldom get to experience the ‘interesting’ part of the job. Now they don’t have much work like photocopying maybe to tidy/save files ?

I think it's good to let the kids do boring work - they also need to learn that work isn't always going to be interesting all the time. Actually, admin work is still needed, but they often dress up the tasks and make the job scope sound more interesting as many students will be turned off by work that sounds too boring. Just read the job descriptions carefully, and between the lines! Or ask around friends and relatives to see if their offices might want a temp worker to take on a \"housekeeping\" project that no-one has time to do - my older girl once helped in a law firm to prepare paper documents and files for archiving, and in another organisation to check through and update their mailing list. Totally mind-numbing, but it suited her.

You'll be surprised at how responsible kids can be when they know their mums are not going to pick up after them! Just let them try - if they get scolded, it will be a good learning experience. And if they sacked, better now than when it really counts! But for the very first job, especially for those who are less confident, perhaps getting a job through a personal contact might be easier. Or doing some volunteer work first, as a way to learn how to manage without parents and teachers watching over them.

I think most schools now help students do some kinds of skills inventory or personality assessment which will point them to the types of jobs that might suit them. Some companies (especially the ones with boring jobs like packing) welcome students to sign up in with a friend - they probably feel the students are more likely to stay.

If you are careless, anywhere also get scolding lah. For my industries, any carelessness may result in losing human life so superiors must scold people.

For some kids, that may be a good thing - wake them up and make them more responsible. But if you have a 'tender' or less able type of kid, then start her off with something easier. You have to judge what's best for the child, not just try to shelter them if they don't need it. As I said earlier, I was very careful with my older girl, but let my younger one choose for herself and encouraged her to do things that were more challenging. It all depends on the child.
