then of course join back ACS (Tengah) from 2030 onwards, cannot suka suka join ACS (Junior) primary, when u never even studied in ACSJ at all.


However,
if your alumni is ACSJ, then naturally join back ACSJ primary happily, inside the city. Tengah doesn't impact u. No Tengah, because cannot jump over to ACSP, when u never studied at ACSP before.

this is correct, which is why this move is such a bigdeal.

What the article means is that the cohort size at ACS Barker will gradually fall because the school will STOP taking in new P1 students at ACS Barker after 2029 except for siblings of students still studying at ACS Barker. Post 2030 all ACSP P1 intake will start at ACS Tengah.

Somehow I got the impression that the decision to relocate is due to the national trends of “low birth rates” and “more young families moving into new and emerging estates”, as quoted in the CNA article. However in reality, the P1 enrollment statistics showed that there is a very strong demand for ACSP within 1km, irrespective of the national trends.

But gov policy dont just look at one sch stats. They look at regional and strategic levels. To them they willview the total in central area beyond 2030.

Why ACS? Maybe ACS first approached MOE, they are keen. First TPY never has the intention. All guess work

Those staying within 1km of ACSP already need to ballot to get into ACSP year after year. If ACSP cannot even cope with the demand in its current location why talk about catering for more students (in the west)?

I would imagine a logical solution is to open one more brand new sch ACS (Tengah) if it really wants to cater for more students in the west. But probably that’s not what govt wants.

First Toa Payoh definitely doesn’t have that kind of autonomy and a Board of Governor to represent them to approach MOE.

There are so many 1 and 2 bedders in new condo popping up in the central area, and one only needs to rent for 30 months for P1 registration. Cheaper to rent than to buy so demand for places in good primary schools will continue to stay strong.

My own guess, may be the initial approach by ACS BOG is for ACSJ to take over the open space/carpark area next to ACSJ’s current site for expansion, but somehow the talks turn to Tengah as MOE is kind to offer ACS an even bigger area for expansion.

With the shock development that ACSP has to relocate to Tengah, I think anything can happen now, really up to MOE to decide.

I feel that RGPS is quite vulnerable given that it is sandwiched between two other girls schools nearby (MGS Pri and SCGS Pri) plus there’s another GEP centre (NYPS) that is just 5 mins away. Who knows, it could well be the next one to be relocated to Punggol/Sengkang area and ‘advised’ to go co-ed as well.
