I do too - but I will use other people's rankings for reference only, and don't impose my rankings on others. I don't assume that other people will rank things in exactly the same way as each person's priorities and preferences will differ, which is why I feel that arguing over these is rather pointless.

To be candid, all parents are ok with ranking of the JCs for different reasons:

                      1. To use it as a guide for selection of schools
                      2. To celebrate the stellar performance of the school if it seems to have outperformed itself in the ranking (it’s human nature to feel happy, nothing wrong with that)

The real debate here which got ugly is simply the INTEGRITY of the data is in question for the ranking.
While most of data is released by the schools and some is through sources of hear-say, it makes the ranking data not exactly reliable. If the ranking is just used as a rough guide, it’s passable since MOE does not release ranking to reduce stress on students but if we are OCD about a perfect guide, then that’s where the debate ensues.

And because some data are from hear-say source, parents in the school have to try so hard to convince others on the superiority of the school to justify its position in the ranking when it is being questioned. And when pushed harder, other JCs are dragged in for comparison unnecessarily. Again, it’s human nature when one feels cornered.

Sometimes the debate become heated because:
                      1. we forget MOE does not release official ranking anymore for a reason
                      2. some debaters are cornered and turned ugly into "spitting contest" as someone has put it.

So if each takes a step back to think this ranking is just a rough guide plus it is not the tell-all story of a school because results ALONE is only a one-dimensional view, then just let it be. After all, NYJC has come out with an article to give a detail account of the reasons for its success as an alternative.

And if parents still cannot trust the integrity of the data, then just skip that data or pay the school a visit if the children are interested in the school, there is no point in forcing people to do what they do not want to do, whatever the reasons may be. And there is no point turning ugly by saying things one would normally not say about other JCs when cornered.

The other way is to alert the originator who publishes this ranking yearly to state the source of the data collected against each JC, from school website or word of mouth, and let the readers decide how they consume the data.
If this cannot be done, re-publish this in kiasuparents and state the source of the data if one is keen to validate the source.

                      Just my 2 cents worth.
