I don’t think the article suggests that. How did you come to that conclusion? If anything, it goes to show that the demand for affiliation is stronger than ever.

Besides, MOE won’t abolish affiliation… unless someone in MOE doesn’t like the Education Minister or the Education Minister thinks he / she wants to retire from politics already, and political suicide is a great idea.
demand strong doesn't not mean the supply must match

from Econs 101, we learnt that:
demand strong = price will increase.
(i.e the cost of getting the affiliation)

The current Barker Road site is downright dilapidated and disheveled. The swimming pool tiles etc are filthy and the changing rooms + toilets are uncleaned weekly. I really can’t see why (other than sentimental reasons) the alumni wouldn’t prefer a spanking new campus over this ancient one.[/quote]
Between 2033 to 2039, the barker road school will be turned into a spanking new campus as well to give grand welcome to ACSJ. So they should just give both ACSP and ACSJ parents a chance to choose between here or there, just to be fair.

Something that comes with a backlash doesn't mean that the idea is inherently a bad policy for the citizen.

Having affiliation is a benefit - to say 50% of the population.
(why not look at the other 50% who are not entitled to any affiliation? we want fairness and meritocracy, don't' we?
Moving ACSP to Tengah, is akin to striking at the queen bee or at the heart of Singapore's elitist society. As long as MOE is doing this for the greater good of the community, the majority of Singaporeans will benefit from it.

After reading the article, I will not bet against MOE to eventually abolish affiliation COP and make the primary school system more even playing field. As long as we have affiliation privileges preserved for the privileged and well-to-do, it will be impossible for MOE to achieve its goal of making every school a good school. (at least at primary school level).

If there are no affiliation benefits, I am sure some popular primary schools will become less popular, while academic standards and diversity for some secondary schools will improve due to a more merit-based enrollment system.

MOE may eventually abolish affiliation for all school?
Not impossible, there have been hints already, though not through thr article that was pasted earlier.

The article’s affiliation points to 2 different types of affiliation.

              1. We have always taken affiliation to be from primary to secondary. In this first case ACSP alumni are asking if there can be affiliation to ACSJ so that instead of applying to Phase 2A at Tengah ACS(P), they can choose to apply to Phase 2A at ACSJ. Now from 2030, only male kids with existing siblings in Barker can apply to ACS(P) at Barker but not alumni(the last of its registrations before merging with ACSJ and named as ACS(J) at Barker).

              2. The latter affiliation mentioned was about a secondary school affiliation for the girls. In response to that, the BOG’s response was they would initiate discussions with MGS or if they have done this ACS(P) Tengah well in terms of registrations and good results, they have a chance to ask for a co-ed secondary ACS (S) at Tengah in future.

Apparently, the answers to affiliation also need consultation with MOE.

My gutfeel is there may not be affiliation of the two alumni but those ACS(P) alumni having address within 1km of Barker NOW could possibly be granted the exceptional permission to apply to Barker in 2030 for their sons.

Both affliation is somewhat related. One of the main draw for choosing ACS Barker over Tengah is to have their kids complete primary and secondary education in the same location and this through train certainty is also due to secondary school affliation COP.

Without affliation COP I reckon maybe half of acs cohort may not get promoted to acs sec?

My understanding is current primary to secondary affiliation remains unchanged albeit ACS(P) relocates to Tengah based on the Q&A below. They are asking for additional affiliation to the ACSJ alumni so that they can apply to ACSJ( since ACS(P) Barker from 2030 strictly takes in male students with siblings who are existing students only).. Also I am not sure if ACS secondary currently has \"backward affiliation\" meaning if a parent is alumni of the secondary school but not primary, they can enrol in the primary. SCGS and NYGH have that from what I know, some years ago.

                  Quoting the Q&A :
Q: WILL PUPILS FROM THE RELOCATED ACS PRIMARY ENJOY AFFILIATION WITH THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THE ACS FAMILY?
A: Yes, they will. There is no change to the affiliation policies for now.

“Responding to a question about whether affiliation for female students to secondary school would be introduced, Mr Seow noted that the issue was also brought up during the town hall.”

“Currently right now, the girls do not have any affiliation, there’s no secondary school there. Clearly we have a number of Methodist girls’ schools, I think we will also initiate discussions with those schools as well,” he added.

I doubt MGS Sec would agree to grant affiliation to ACSP Tengah girls. If MGS accepts Tengah girls, a substantial number of MGS Pri girls may not be able to make it back to MGS Sec via affiliation due to the rule of 80% cap for affiliated students. I think Seow say say only.

I don’t think he has MGS in mind. There are a number of Methodist schools for girls.

                      Methodist Girls’ School
                      Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary)
                      Geylang Methodist School (Secondary)
Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary)

I'm going to bet the opposite that no such exception would be given. There is nothing unusual in the current situation that warrants such an exception.

Firstly, the privilege of being an alumni is not being taken away. Alumni of ACSP are still eligible for Phase 2A, albeit in a different location. Why should it be an exception that they be given an extra privilege of deciding where to place that Phase 2A advantage?

Secondly, schools move all the time. Nothing unusual here that warrants a special dispensation for ACSP would-be / potential applicants. If would-be / potential applicants feel aggrieved by the move, come to KSP and take heed of the advice freely given out by the gurus of KSP:
                        - Start sourcing and shift house, preferably to < 1km of the new address
                        - Rent a place< 1km for > 30 months closer to P1 registration

Otherwise, just accept that every school, a good school. Apply to the nearest school and hope for the best (a warm, early welcome to Farrer Park Primary School / Bukit Timah Primary School).
