For those who already have a property <1km of Barker, it is far easier to sell it/rent it out and use the money to buy/rent at Tengah. Will have extra cash per month even.

Consider the opposite, which is what the poor 2C folks have to do, if they wanted to get into ACS in the past.

      Privileged, so privileged…

As long as any proposal is made from a position of privilege to re-write rules so as to maintain a position of privilege, it should be (and very likely would be) rejected outright.

As of now, people who cried foul still retain their ACSP Phase 2A eligibility, as well as affiliation to both ACS(I) and ACSBR. If they don’t intend to use them or get balloted out, there’s always Phase 2B (if they are eligible) and Phase 2C - just like over half of the applicants.

Misconstrued as privilege. The current campus needs a total make over…

I am not in a position to discuss about the state of the campus since I have never stepped into it before but maintaining Phase 2A < 1km privilege has nothing to do with the current state of the campus.

My understanding is current primary to secondary affiliation remains unchanged albeit ACS(P) relocates to Tengah based on the Q&A below. They are asking for additional affiliation to the ACSJ alumni so that they can apply to ACSJ( since ACS(P) Barker from 2030 strictly takes in male students with siblings who are existing students only).. Also I am not sure if ACS secondary currently has \"backward affiliation\" meaning if a parent is alumni of the secondary school but not primary, they can enrol in the primary. SCGS and NYGH have that from what I know, some years ago.

              Quoting the Q&A :
Q: WILL PUPILS FROM THE RELOCATED ACS PRIMARY ENJOY AFFILIATION WITH THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THE ACS FAMILY?
A: Yes, they will. There is no change to the affiliation policies for now.
no change \"for now\". That statement doesn't sound very assuring.

With the ACS new school for special needs, will this new school also enjoy affiliation to ACS secondary? Or will they have a separate special need school in ACS (I) eventually?

Whether it's MGS or another school, I doubt such a proposal is acceptable to the powers that be.

It should be noted that there are MORE students from formerly single gender https://accs.sg/directory/#P-SSS that enjoys no affiliation to a secondary school. These schools are:
Canossa Catholic Primary, De La Salle Primary, St. Anthony Primary
If MOE is to open the gate to ACSP, there is no legitimate reason to deny the SMC of these schools if they are to request for the same.
Well, you will never know if you don’t try. Once upon a time, nobody would believe ACSP would enrol little girls too. ACSI at year 5/6 and now Tengah. Have doubts then? Sure.

.. Many are discussing privileges here even though it doesn’t directly concern them too. So don’t worry. It’s just a discussion. 😆

Consider the scenario of school ABC(P) and ABC(J) in Hougang estate and ABC(P) is going to relocate to Pasir Ris, leaving ABC(J) behind in Hougang for merger later. Similarly, if an exception is being proposed and considered for alumni for ABC(P) currently living in Hougang estate within 1km of the school for the enrolment in Phase2A in 2030, is that giving privilege to the privileged?

When we look at an issue, we have to stand in a position of no prejudice. Discrimination for the underprivileged is bad, so is discrimination for the privileged. We have to work within reasons. It’s really odd, waking up every morning, being an alumni and living within 1km of the school you used to go to and raised funds for, and have to send your own children to a school in another location 30 mins away when the school is still operating there.

By the way, I am no stakeholder in this discussion at all, coming from a purely neutral standpoint.

Of course, even granted this wish, parents have to consider if it is good to put their kids to grow up in an environment with kids of homogeneous backgrounds or diverse backgrounds. This should be left as their individual choice because everyone has their own living conditions to consider as well. If they have old folks to send to day care and young kids to send to school, their choice of school based on distance would be pretty clear. Just my 2 cents worth.
