Anyone knows parents whose child was a Top 50 finalist in the SOTA ART COMPETITION last few years? How did it help in the SOTA DSA or does it help in anyway? Thanks

I have not done detailed anysis. But the summary is:
IB need to study 6 subjects. There are 6 groups. The sixth group is Arts. If you are in SOTA, you must pick one subject from Arts group. That means you will cover all 6 groups. This puts students in a position where they can only pick one among Physics/Chemistry/Biology. Some people comment that students can do 7 subjects and select a second Science so that they have wider choices in University admission process. I am not very sure if SOTA allows this.
If you go to IB in MGS, you pick one subject each from the first five groups and your 6th subject can be from the Science group. This is because Arts group can be replaced with one of the other five as per IB requirements to pass. Thus, you can do two Science subjects without studying 7 subjects if you are in MGS.
Correct me if I am wrong.

To further ask:
(Not that my kids can / want to go med sch)
Even for med sch interview, only Chem is required right?
So the real use of 2 sci at “high school” level is really marginal right? Anything more, can always learn at the uni level. -

Actually for medicine, need 2 sciences. Chemistry is compulsory, the other science can be either biology or physics.

“A good H2 pass in Chemistry and H2 pass in either Biology or Physics.”

One of her classmate was. Definitely a plus to list it when applying. However in the end, this child went to another school though.

There are many courses which require double science. We must check the university website.

Hi everyone,
My kid is in P6 this year and thinking of sports DSA to an IP school.
Profile
Medals at Nationals
Overall AL9 for P5
AL11 for recent P6 common test ( common tests seemed to be a strange format marked out of 30 or 40… so if you make one mistake, it actually converts to a few percentage points lost )
Would like to ask:
1) if we apply to a school that has both IP AND O Levels and indicate IP as preference, if the kid does not get IP, will the kid be offered OP in that school?
2) does the kid have a good chance
of getting into an IP school with this profile
Thanks! -

Many said it helps to give the child a better chance, but my boy didn’t get top 50, but managed to get SOTA CO 😂

The critical information would be:

1. What sport? Team or individual?
2. Nationals as in NSG? Or Pesta Sukan / Singapore Open?
3. Color of medal(s)?
Some sports are highly competitive. Some sports are not. Some sports have multiple “competitors” for DSA place. Some sports less so.
Prima facie, the kid seems to be competent in the sport. Would likely be invited for a trial / chat. Whether the kid can get in will depend on pt 1 to 3 above. Without those details, hard to say. You should apply and hope for the best. -

Colour of medals gold and silvers at NSG and pesta sukan.
