Hi I am a Catholic living in Seletar area… and my daughter turns 4 this year. I would like to enrol her in St Nicholas Primary but i have heard so many different comments on how to ensure that i stand a higher chance. Is it necessary for me to move within 1km of the school to improve my chances or would my religion as a qualifier be good enough to secure a place for her? I am worried because if distance is the priority, i need to sell my house and buy somewhere closer to St Nicks. Please help!! Thanks!!!

Your religion will qualify you in Phase 2B. However, in the event there is balloting, distance will set in. So, moving to within 1 km of the school will increase your child's chance of getting into the school. -
Has anyone received the recommendation letter from SHHK?
-
My understanding is that SHHK will only issue the letter after phase 2A2. That’s when they will look at the number of places available for phase 2B in the schools and determine how many letters they will issue.

SHHK will only know how many letters they can issue after 2A2. You have to call them at the office to find out if you are successful - typically 1/2 days before 2B. The letter will likely not be mailed to you, but the school you are aiming for will have the list of successful parent. -

Better check with your religious leader on Phase 2B qualification - before it is too late to remedy.
For eg, some people think that they have been attending the church long time will qualify them ....but realised too late that they need to be a confirmed member for xx number of years .....something like that .... -

Please refer to the balloting history of the school http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/ang-mo-kio.
With the exception of last year, SNGS required balloting for those within 1 km even in P2B. It is anybody's guess on the situation this year. -

As far as I know, for all Catholic schools in Singapore, you'll just have to present a baptism certificate and that would suffice, ie. you do not need a letter from the church nor show proof that you are a regular churchgoer for x years.
