I am now watching 3 Chinese leaders this week.
1) PM Lee visiting Beijing, Guangdong and Hainan on 27 Mar
2) Ma Ying-jeou visiting Shanghai, Nanjing, Changsha, Wuchang, Chongqing on 27 Mar
3) 2 days later, 29 Mar, Tsai Ing-wen vising NYC, 2 remaining Central American diplomatic allies, and LA where she will meet with the Speaker McCarthy
I think (1) and (2) are all choreographed/well-timed so that PRC doesn't need to encircle Taiwan and conduct an expensive military exercise again like last Aug after Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.
Ma and Lee serve as good excuses and covers for PRC, cos their visits could be leveraged by PRC to justify to hawks like Hu Xijin in PRC why they don't need to punish Taiwan as harshly as the Pelosi one, after Tsai's controversial US visit this week.
Excited to hear PM's comments in Boao as well as his doorstop interviews as he could be asked to comment on cross-straits relations when Tsai speaks in NYC on 29 Mar or 30 Mar. Ma's comments will be more critical as it would impact on KMT's poll ratings for this till next year's Presidential Election campaign.
Interesting to see how the pro-China former leader vies against the pro-US incumbent, plus the middleman Lee, and how this whole thing is gonna be acted out within the same timeframe!

It’s dicey to straddle both China & the US. China suffering many US investors pullout & high population unemployment now. There may be opportunities for our collaboration in research & bz now to keep Xi happy. But if China’s economy crashes, we’ll be much affected. Will we see more PRCs on our shores? Will our property prices shoot up sky high again? Will the Chinese be here for jobs?

That aside, I find our MFA and state media are really slow in gathering all the footages and reports in a timely fashion. Other countries' media are super fast in delivering news to the hot desks.
Ours must still edit the end-of-day or end-of-trip photos, vet and approve, so that PM's handshake isn't looking too limp on his FB and other ministers' FBs. The video editor takes a while to put together the video montage or photo collages, I find. Malaysian media and Taiwanese media are quick in pushing out Anwar's and Ma's news on YouTube.

It's as though our PMO is very cautious of what the Chinese might say, how PM's speeches are worded, what MOUs we signed this time, what we are treated to lunch, etc.
Seems like only Anwar has been invited to speak at a local university, Tsing Hwa. Our PM has never been invited to speak at any PRC university.
PM's arrival at the Hainan airport was also not featured. Anwar's arrival in Hainan (his first leg) was captured by Malaysian media. -
