Actually, RSO might be held on Thursday 6 April 2023 (last year it was on Friday 8 April and Friday 7 this year is Good Friday). Some of the kids are doing the trial today.
Yep - date is correct.
I think some (from my kids’ school) were invited to join.
As for SPSO… for 2023, there is no cap on the number of participants from each school. But the participants have to be registered by their primary school and no individual or private registration is allowed.

Hi does anyone know what is the format for Junior Science Whiz Challenge organised by RVHS? Is it like SPSO for P5? Seems like they participate in teams?

For Raffles Science Olympiad and SPSO (Nus High). Boy is in the competition however I feel training by sch doesn't seem to be enough. We didn't send him for private training..wonder which book is relevant or might help..
It depends on which Science Olympiad you are preparing for. Different Olympiads test different things. -

Too late for RSO, the test is tomorrow. For SPSO, it’s 40 MCQ testing comprehension, inference and analytical skills. A lot of graphs. I’ve heard that there’s a few SO books in the popular bookstore that you can try. Reading widely helps!

Did you get the letter from teachers regarding the format and sample questions? First round is individual theory tests, then they will do a combination of the team members individual scores (3 in a team), top teams get to go second round (experiment team work) and final round is when final few teams go on stage to answer questions trivia style.

Not bad, there is training by school, then not too bad. He will get some pointers. My boy’s school didn’t even provide training -.-, can only self study last year for both. RSO, the trial mock questions will give you a good indication of where he stands. If he does well for the mock questions, I believe a medal is possible. But since RSO is too near to do anything, focus on SPSO. SPSO focuses on primary school level science unlike RSO which focuses on lower sec sch science, hence mostly logic, inference and comprehension skills, meaning the answers can be found logically. The popular bookstore science Olympiad books may help but focus on graph reading, comprehension and logic skills. Good luck! All the best!
