Hi parents,
my son in P1 told me today that he'll be going to a different class for his CL lesson. May I know if the school has started to 'band' the students alrdy?

It is based on your SA1 results but we were not told which ability it is. Only the class number.

Tks chasingjelly, so to spk everytime the kids have their SAs the school will regroup the classes again?

Hi Chasing Jelly,
For my DS’s P1 class, the students were split into CL2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 class.
According to the parents’ talk given to us at the beginning of the year, the banding is based on our child’s SA1 results + the weekly chinese test. So I think the banding is more based on CL. -

no only for p1, they will be re-group only for the chinese lessons immediately after sa1 so that children would be place in the group best suit their chinese ability. Thereafter, the kids will be have chinese lesson re-group at the beginning of each academic yr based on their previous yr overall chinese results.

Tks vlim. Just find it too early to stream kids in P1. My DS made lots of careless mistake for all his papers...

My son only mentioned which class he is going to. Could you share more on what is CL 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 class.
Thank you. -
The kids will eventually get to know. Their CL teachers will tell them. Eg. you are in the best, 2nd best, etc… class. The no. of students in the CL class is also a tell tale sign.
For those in "good" CL classes, the no. of students can go up to 40. As they are supposed to have good foundation so they can move faster. So in "weaker" CL classes, you will see relatively lesser students (20+) so that teachers can pay more attention to them. Which is good in a way too.
In the previous 2 years, CL7 and 8 used to be the "good" class.
