Living in Singapore

I am aware of what you have written but it’s neither here nor there. I am talking about PR retirees who are no longer contributing to our country but will still need to occupy a hospital bed in 2030.
Not all PRs here are rich. Many work at jobs here which are short of labour, and work hard. Many are here because the situation here is better for themselves and their families than back home, but it doesn't mean that their situations in Singapore are better than the average Singaporean. Admittedly, there are the rich PRs whose lavish lifestyle make them stand out, but we shouldn't tar all PRs with the same brush. Also, the Sg government doesn't hand out the pink IC that readily to PRs. Many apply repeatedly and don't get it.
Those who are still contributing to our economy (example, as nurses) then of cos, by all means renew their PRs. And for those who fail to get our pink IC despite applying repeatedly for decades, then something must be wrong somewhere. I suggest this group should also go back to their homeland for their retirement come 2030.
When your loved ones need immediate medical care but the earliest available medical appointment is 6 months away during super-aged stage, you save your loved ones first or a non-citizen (and their parents first)? This is the stark choice we will face unless steps are taken before 2030. -

Not everyone needs to pump in 20 million to become a PR here. Could it be that this PRC did not show clear proof to our govt on how he got his 20million? Thus, his application is forever “pending”.
It is very hard to denounce our link to our birthplace esp when we hv built strong family ties & frdships.
A PRC group of old neighbors had recently lamented even when they put in more then 20 million into bzness & homes, their PR applications are still pending & one child almost finishing Int’l school, whilst the sister hv graduated & the father put her name in one of his a company, with a condo & a commercial outfit in her name. The younger one waiting. Our govt getting very selective & don’t grant PRs easily as we used to do. I told her, funds & properties may not be the only criteria now, unlike in the past when we needed very much to boost our population & all M’sians & PRC students get a letter of invitation to take up PR even before they graduated in their final year. -

Everybody also contributes to the local economy. I buy a cup of coffee also contributing to the economy, what. What I am saying is, a PR retiree’s contribution is likely to be lesser than a young PR who can produce higher value-add to our economy. One of the three criteria stated in my earlier post is, no longer contributing to SG economy, so if govt finds this particular PR retiree still has great contributions to our local economy, then by all means renew his PR status.
What are you talking about? They contribute to Singapore's economy by spending their money here. PRs do NOT enjoy the same level of subsidy as citizens.
How is amplifying \"us\" versus \"them\" based on half truths not divisive?
As for your earlier question, just look up HK public housing eligibility.
Why is it that some Singaporeans always assume that the whole world applies the same principles and concepts as Singapore? They always assume that because things work this way in Singapore it must be the same everywhere else.
For example, they do not understand that giving up say Indian citizenship means nothing because a person of Indian descent can always re-obtain it. It is not a one-way irreversible process like Singapore. India, like China, is a civilization state.
This makes their fixation on Singapore citizenship laughable. It doesn't work because the assumption that it means permanently giving up their old citizenship is not really true.
What half truths in my earlier post? Anything that is not aligned with your world view is considered half truths?
Why the obsession with 回乡证?The HK lady I mentioned earlier doesn’t even care about what 回乡证. She is more concerned about the impact to her ownership of her HK flat should she become a Singapore citizen.
We take great pride in our small little red dot. If you find fixation on Singapore citizenship so laughable, then by all means you can uproot yourself to southern China or India, where your forefathers migrate from. -

Might as well ban medical tourism. Then we will see whether Singapore will have more or fewer hospital beds for Singaporeans.

Half truths? Ok. You did not mention:

1. PRs do not enjoy the same level of medical subsidies as citizens.
2. PR status must be renewed every 5 years.
I don't know what is the fixation with 回乡证. I was not the one who brought it up. My point exactly. The lady you mentioned did not even care about what 回乡证.
Our current government does not agree with this extremist view too. Maybe it should uproot itself and move to southern China or India too, and leave governing Singapore to the likes of Leong Mun Wai?
I was merely pointing out that the world outside Singapore does not necessarily work the same way, and that policies based on assumptions that they do will fail. Thankfully our government is aware of this.
You sound unusually angry about PRs. That's why I give you the benefit of the doubt that you may have been gaslighted by malign influences. I forgive you. It's not your fault.
The next time one feels like ranting about one's rich Indonesian neighbour for no good reason other than that she is rich, I suggest looking carefully at my KSP avatar. That is a 9 year old avatar, courtesy of Chief. It's an ageless story. -

You are saying your avatar only has one eye, that’s why you can’t read and comprehend properly?
I see my KSP avatar again after all these years!!!
I never hear got people want to force rich Indonesian neighbour to qualify for our government subsidy one. :rotflmao:
I merely shared why this Indonesian friend is unlikely to give up her Indon citizenship. How did that become forcing her? Talking about half truths and disinformation! -

Firstly, we are in KSP where the folks are mostly mature adults/parents and it is a known fact that PRs enjoy a lower level of medical subsidy. Secondly, the level of subsidy is beside the point. With or without medical subsidies, they will still occupy a hospital bed.

Again, 5 years renewable PR is beside the point. I am talking about PR retirees above 62yo. I am not talking about the PR population is general!
Talk about integrity, a hint, someone with a one-eye avatar first introduced the term 回乡证!
Hahaha. I sound unusually angry with PR? That’s your own warped perception! I said one PR retiree who no longer contributes to SG economy go back in exchange for a younger PR to come SG to mitigate the super-aged situation in Singapore. One goes back and one comes in, how is this being angry with PRs?
Please define ranting. Sharing an anecdote is called ranting? It is after reading Esteema’s post that I recall and share reasons why some PRs are unlikely to renounce their original citizenship. Then Esteema’s sharing about the PRC uncle who invested 20mil still can’t get PR, is also ranting? -
Look at the colour of the avatar’s eye more carefully.
-
So people do their calculations carefully. What’s wrong with that?
You saying Singapore government doesn’t? -
lee_yl\" post_id=\"2106263\" time=\"1682223462\" user_id=\"17023:
Esteema's post doesn't ooze anger so doesn't qualify as a rant.

People don't want to renounce their original citizenship, just want to stay in Singapore to spend their retirement money here you also buay song. Say until like they choose to reside in Singapore to live in hospital all the time they are here in order to steal hospital beds.
:pokeeye:
Psst. Tell you a secret. The majority of PRs who retire and cannot afford to live in Singapore already go back to their home countries where it is cheaper or where they enjoy benefits paid for by their governments lah. Garment don't have to chase them away lah. They don't want to convert to Singapore citizen precisely because they want to go home when they grow old. You want to force them all to convert to Singapore citizens to grow old here for what? Totally no logic.
