It is on this basis that I suggested that the retiree PRs go back to their homeland for retirement to try to reduce the resident aged population. This could be an interim solution till our new medical facilities/hospitals are ready. The other options are probably even less palatable.

When Sg has become super-aged, we will not be the ones deciding, as we will be the aged population. So perhaps we should voluntarily make it easier on our kids - refuse medical solutions that prolong a life of poor health (as opposed to a life of good health) and get out of their hair?

Yes. More high net worth individuals = higher COE = more business for businesses that cater to them like restaurants and shops and services. The trickle down effect. But also the not so nice stuff such as more competition for places in good schools, beds in hospitals (but they go private, right?), more road congestion etc.


Similarly the trickle down effect also takes place in other settings. Like a patient ( or his family member) behaving aggressively to get faster access to a bed in hospital. Yes, he will likely get what he wants because the hospital staff want him stop such behaviour. Trickle down, other people also behave aggressively because they also want (or think they deserve) prioriety treatment. So more patients start to throw tantrums. Trickle down, patients who are too ill and really need immediate treatment get pushed down the queue. Trickle down, staff who are in the line of fire get mentally affected. Trickle down, more older staff decide they have had enough and decide they do not want to do this any longer. Trickle down, senior healthcare staff leave. Trickle down… I think we should get the picture.

This picture is repeated across all service sectors.

I’m happy to see this discussion where different points of view and different experiences are brought up. I hope to see the next step, where we apply what take back from these discussions in our lives. To recognise that all of us have different views and to respect the different views and choices and change our behaviours and actions to be more considerate of other people.

Just think, my family never have car but we can live happily in Singapore. There are many students taking bus and MRT to school every morning. Why you need to feel sad?

Was looking at how crazy the COE is these days. I am also dreading the day when I have to give up my car, whether due to owning a car being too costly or being unfit to drive. Growing up we had a family car, then I got my license and my own car when I was in my early 20s and have been driving since then.

Right now I don't even have an ezlink card for taking MRT. And am totally lost as to what bus or line to where. It will be a change that I will take some time to get use to. Not to mention my issues with crowded enclosed places. I've fainted in MRTs before during peak hours when I had to take the train to/from work before I got my own car.

I still have a few more years before the COE on my current car expires. So :xedfingers: and that the COE comes down.

Suddenly I aware I am so fortunate because I don't afraid the rise of COE because I can always take public transport to everywhere in Singapore. I know all the MRT and most bus routes and can plan for my itinerary. I don't afraid of the rise of private property price because I can stay in a small HDB house at non mature area. I don't afraid the the rise of GST because I can have my meals at hawker centres........and my family have been receiving the U save rebate, etc from the Government.......:)
