Everyone have their reasons why own a car or live in this or that kind of housing, or go pte clinic vs polyclinic, or govt vs pte hospital, etc. So long as they can afford and are happy, and it is not obtained illegally/unethically, who is to say their choice or lifestyle is wrong.

If anything, I am actually of the mind that if you can afford certain things, like private housing, private transport and private healthcare, don’t go and fight with those who cannot for resources that is already limited. I believe more in living not just within your means but according to your means.

Growing up happily not necessarily have a direct relationship to material stuff…that’s is just an extra…an option.

Maybe some material things able to provide some extra comfort but without that still ok, can live happily also.

For families chose to spend the money then they got to work harder to fill up the piggy bank and for those don’t want to waste this kind of money…piggy bank will be heavier.

Just think, my family never have car but we can live happily in Singapore. There are many students taking bus and MRT to school every morning. Why you need to feel sad?[/quote]
Good for you that you live simply, LNW.. but not all of us live like this. Not saying one way is better than the other.. just that everyone has their own lifestyle. I feel it’s natural to feel sad when the candy is being taken away. You know the feeling?

Yes, Zeal mummy, I know the feeling, I had been staying alone in a 5 room condominium in Siglap area, every morning, there was a regular cab driver sending me to work, my weekly family dinner was at Lei Garden with lobsters, family breakfast was in Raffles Hotel and high tea was at Shangri-la Hotel. Medical treatment by specialist at Mt. Elizabeth Hospital.....but I was not happy during those days.

Government says highly misleading. So, I guess it's not part of the solution. :siam:

Feel sorry that you were not happy then..happiness is more than abt money..but money, must admit is important esp when have kids/when we are older.

Personally I feel I myself can have very little, I will be happy also...but since young I worry for my mom/siblings. Not that my mom don't have money but just inborn, I m the 3rd gen woman, same pattern..When kids came, you may think even further away.. beyond own retirement, way beyond their adulthood...so this life will be a laolu 命. But I m happy.

Everything getting more expensive and worry them not earning enough next time. I noticed I been telling them to save…tissues/electricity etc. Told them not only environmentally friendly but also good for their own pocket.

It’s good to live & let live. It’s very hard to try to judge anybody’s motivation for their choices in life. What may be obvious to us, may underlie with some other hardships we’re not aware.

I wished I was able to afford better medical care for my mum’s stroke & subsequent dementia, when I entered the workforce with little to afford her treatments. After some years of painful experiences, I was resolved to cover myself comprehensively with medical insurances to relieve my kids fr financial burden for my care.

My recent move to seek private treatments were not so much of any altruism but a push fr my impatience with the lengthy delays & imprecise assessment. I’ve not regretted to pay a little more for earlier effective diagnosis & treatment .

Indeed, the turnaround time for lab tests & colonoscopy/gastroscopy was superb with private care & I was given very detail explanations & advices how a slight change of lifestyle can improve my health. I didn’t get this fr docs at PolyClinics or my young specialist lack the experience to decisively diagnose the cause & I didn’t get the appropriate treatment after almost a year.

I shld’ve gone pte after 9 mths of suffering & took DH’s advice fr his 3 days of hemorrhoids pain at a public hospital (with many rounds of interns asking repeated questions) which was operated on same day he decided to seek pte opinion. DH says s’times when we think it’s a simple condition, and do not think the need for special/costly treatments, we might be pound foolish delaying early precise diagnosis & treatment .

When my family had dengue, it was w/o question we hit for public facilities, not to burden the public system but the platelets count at PolyClinics wld suffice & we u’stood there to be no effective treatment except to hv nurses monitor the level of platelets recovery.

So, with Covid, the world was not prepared in the early days for such a pandemic & countries were trying to setup temp treatment stations (open gardens, exhibition centres, etc) and we can’t unkindly rant health authorities inefficiencies or misuse/burdening of facilities.
