Hi manorway, dementia is a long drawn-out process of deterioration. I think the considerations between home care (with helper) vs nursing home would depend on the current severity of the dementia.
Eg if the elderly is still quite lucid, and put straight into nursing home, as a person they may wonder why am I in a medical facility (like a hospital setting), with restrictions on where I can go, who I can meet. The plus side of nursing home is they have nursing staff and (at least one doctor?) on standby for immediate medical attention if need be.

Essentially it is a relatively “fun” daycare centre but for elderly to socialize and have dementia-prevention exercises with fellow elderly, guided by nursing staff. Less like a hospital. Some elderly may enjoy this type of setting (like my MIL, a sociable person and extrovert). It does not suit introverts who prefer NOT having to talk to strangers & play “silly games like bingo, do art & craft while chatting” the whole day. Such elderly may be more suited to be cared for by a single helper at home, a more comfortable setting for them. -

There are many centres that hv programmes designed for elderly day care & they do take in visitors with dementia - St Luke , St Andrew’s, Ling Kwang Home & Zion Home, to name a few.
My mum was invited to Ling Kwang Home, one of the best run in SG, but she didn’t like it, possibly arising fr her generation of looking at it as being abandoned. I’ve a few frds who now hire a helper to accompany their elderly to & fro these centres. One even pay for the lunch of both helpers & elderly. Helper does nothing but wait to bring elderly home. I wldnt hv known I had to pay the helper this way. But most wld hv hire helper to send elderly, then do some housework at home & fetch elderly back for dinner after all exercises done. -
There will be more of such nursing homes popping up around our little island as we have a rapidly aging population… having a helper to manage while having a few days a week at the nursing home is quite ideal… it’s gives the caregiver some space to breathe and also the elderly to socialize.

Yes, this is my purpose of sending my dad to the Senior Care Centre once a week. We take it that he is going to the school to exercise, watch tv prog, read newspapers, look around and chit chat with the seniors while helper can take a break or run some errands like her 6 mth ME.

I used to hv my gfrd visit me every Wed k Fri when she send her MIL to nearby St Luke’s for exercises till her later demise. Seems when she’s doing exercises there, she’s very happy & even recognizes me when I paid her a visit. The staff there helps them socialize & jokes. Happy place!

Dad’s helper will be going for her home leave in P. She said there is a 6 pg form to complete before submission.
We can’t locate this form from P embassy website.
Anybody who DIY for P helper’s home leave?
If there is any agent who is willing to settle the paperwork for us and we don’t need to around, and charge a small fee, pls PM me.
