By end May, the P6 teachers would have finished teaching all the PSLE syllabus. June holidays most kids will be toggling between doing tons of past year papers, supp lessons in school (if any), and intensive crash courses (if parents want to pay for those).


Bring them out to play as reward if they need a breather once a while, but these coming hols is the time to make up for lost time since no school during the day.

Recently, I heard that highlighters are not allowed so students cannot highlight parts of the question paper. Is this announced in every school?

Second, for science and eng open ended questions - my DD has long answers and it does not fit in especially the why/explain/describe/how questions. Did anyone face this problem?

Seeking for some advise.

I recall from my child’s last year’s PSLE instructions that the kids are advised not to highlight any part of their answers, as that would render the scanning of their answer scripts illegible (you know the dark shadow blanking out the most important words…) But highlighting the question should be ok. Maybe your child’s school is just playing it safe by banning highlighters end of story.

Most tuition centres will train the kids to use their pen to underline, circle, box up important keywords in the questions. That is a good workaround (though less colourful).

Thank you for clarifying the first point. My DD does not go to any tuition center :)..thus unaware...
How about the second one? can they extend lines to fit their answers in Science open ended questions

Yes my child had the same problem, especially since his handwriting was medium sized (refused to write smaller). Just use ruler to draw a few more lines if have time. If no time then write freehand but hopefully straight-ish. He ends up drawing arrows everywhere to fill up available spaces. Legible can already.
