heh... my dd told me the same classes too! maybe they are in the same class.Hi Chasing Jelly,
For my DS's P1 class, the students were split into CL2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 class.
According to the parents' talk given to us at the beginning of the year, the banding is based on our child's SA1 results + the weekly chinese test. So I think the banding is more based on CL.

frankly speaking I found this system ok especially for those kids who have no good foundation for hanyu ping ying and so forth..probably during their lessons, the teacher will tackle the weaker kids problem without hindering the others kid progress.
Tks vlim. Just find it too early to stream kids in P1. My DS made lots of careless mistake for all his papers...vlim:
no only for p1, they will be re-group only for the chinese lessons immediately after sa1 so that children would be place in the group best suit their chinese ability. Thereafter, the kids will be have chinese lesson re-group at the beginning of each academic yr based on their previous yr overall chinese results.

Afterall, they will still be re-group again(for chinese lesson only) in p2 base on their p1 overall chinese result.
The kids will all be in the same class when they go p2. They will be reshuffle in p3. So far there is one best class in p3 and the rest of the classes have no ranking. -

Hi 2818,
Hi lostbunny,
My son only mentioned which class he is going to. Could you share more on what is CL 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 class.
Thank you.
I also have no idea which class is good or the foundation class. I asked DS which are the classes that his classmates go to and he said CL 2, 3 , 7, 8 and 9. My DS is in CL9. What about yours? The chinese teacher is Wang lao shi.
Hi Chasing Jelly,
Is yours also in CL9? -
Hi lostbunny,
Mine is in P1I, Wang lao shi class. I was just curious how they are being band, whether by total score or with any other criteria. -
They are banded based on their scores during SA1 and mini test (where applicable). I believed their existing CL teacher will also evaluate their ability and recommend base on that.
But don’t get too excited over this banding. It happens year after year. Kids at this age is still very young, they will develop over time. It also doesn’t mean that going to the best class will definitely get the best scores. It doesn’t work this way. Eg. term 1 and 2 is very heavily focus on HYPY but along the way, chinese character is gaining importance. For kids that are good in HYPY but struggle with chinese character, they will eventually have a difficult time.
My P3 went to best CL class in P1, then dropped to 2nd best in P2 and now to average. But her CL scores is not far off from her friends in top CL class. So it doesn’t mean anything after awhile. So long as you’ve learning support outside school, the kids will still do well regardless the kind of class (best or average). -
Thank you for sharing.
But the problem is I have no ‘learning support outside school’. I am still coaching my son all by myself for CL and EL so abit kiasu to know in advance that we should be expected from the kids.

Yes she will be going to CL9. Is Wang laoshi the chinese tr for CL9? My girl didn't tell me that. Which class is your ds in now? Mine's in 1B.

You are the \"learning support\" outside school :lol:Thank you for sharing.

My kids (P2 and P3) have CL tuition and I am actually asking the tutor to give more focus on compo and comprehension as that is always the \"Killer\". Starting from this semester, I intend to ask them to practise on those EPH CL daily assessment books that has comprehensive questions on each chapter as after all, it's not possible for the tutor to cover everything in 2 hours weekly.
In the case of P1, if you are able to coach, revise and let the child practise on assessment, papers, etc... that is actually good. -
Yeah, 2818. I agree with MMM. You are a very important learning support for your DS.
Chasing Jelly, my DS is in 1G. Ya, I think Wang lao shi has all the while been the chinese teacher for 1i (aka CL9). -
my son is going into maha mohdi next year
as a new student/parent in the school, anything to take note of?
thanks
