      Thanks to some parent's suggestions & feedback, I decided to conduct 1-to-1 oral mock exam instead of oral workshop this mid year sch holiday. No doubt it's more tiring given the hours involved, I do think it's more fruitful for the individual students. 😄

      Just wrapped up 5 days of 1-to-1 online oral practice sessions with the Sec 4 students - I think it's necessary for them to go through the entire process - esp. for HCL 口头报告component - note taking + time management and articulation for the eventual 2 min presentation.

      Since there have been some enquiries + rather than wait till June, I am opening up Wednesday time slots between now to end of May for 1-to-1 online oral practice sessions. Current year Pri 6 and Sec 4 (or Sec 3 taking O Levels) can consider signing up. 😉

                [2023 Pri 6 student]: This girl joined for lessons permanently after attending trial last year end. Though there's no mid year exam, such bite size tests are useful for evaluating students' learning progress. 91 days to PSLE oral :rahrah:

                      It depends on how good/strong the student's foundation in the language is. However, from Pri 6 HCL to Sec 1 HCL, the jump is not that big. The main differences are

                      - no more pic compo, therefore story plotting skill becomes more important
                      - vocab tested in cloze passage are not restricted to the phrases learnt from textbook syllabus
                      - compre passages include more sentences with underlying meaning, thus need to analyse further
                      - new component in the form of email writing in Paper 1


                      The challenges/difficulty will be felt more in Sec 2/3 as the students

                      - get exposed to different types of passages (discursive, explanatory)
                      - learn more rhetorical approaches
                      - are introduced to more examinable components such as forum/formal email writing in Paper 1; editing and summarization in Paper 2 and verbal report in Oral Conversation


                      The key will be to expand one's range of vocab (cannot rely on syllabus word/phrases only), to use the language more often (to improve grammatically, esp. in terms of sentence structuring) and to broaden one's knowledge of major social/local issues (required when discussing on topics in Paper 1 and Oral). Some suggestions will be

                      - Put in effort in learning how to write Chinese characters (penalization for 错别字 can be costly + for editing section in Paper 2, one may need to correct the wrongly used phrase in the question + not all schools have 习字 and/or 听写 at Sec level, which may resulting in lesser/inconsistent effort/focus from students in this aspect)
