Useful ideas for cheap and healthy meals for students:

Most probably need rounding out with more protein, veg or fruit (depending on the recipe). Most are rather carb-heavy, but young people probably need the extra carbs, especially in winter! -
:thankyou:

Hi,
Putting aside forex rates, how has the trend of the starting pay of graduates in London compare to Singapore over the past 10-20 years?
From information that I can get from discover uni website, it seems that the starting pay for a graduate (decent university even the top 5) is much lower than that of say NuS graduate. For eg graduate pay of chemical engineering from imperial college is 34,000 pound/year while average monthly pay for local university engineering grad is $4600/month in 2022. Even law grad pay from LSE gets 50000 pounds/year while monthly pay in Singapore is close to $6400/month. Not to mention that is cpf in Singapore and tax rate in UK is higher…
so does it mean it is really not attractive to study/work in Uk anymore?? Why do Singaporean students still go UK for undergrad studies then… it’s getting more baffling to me… -

Not everyone is so motivated by pay. Neither my husband, myself or my daughter thought about starting (or eventual) pay when deciding whether to study overseas. We considered the experience and exposure good value overall.

I agree with slmkhoo. There are intangibles that overseas grads bring to the table with their global outlook, which is what SG employers may prefer.
The figures cited in pounds are for fresh grads seeking jobs in the UK i suppose? Maybe uk economy not doing well so less pay. Have u compared SGD estimates for if the grads come back to SG to work? -
The view of the UK (and the UK universities) here may be greatly influenced by historical ties, where both past and current prominent figures were educated, and parents’ experience/perception.
Perhaps London is a more dynamic city than many other locations, and a shortlist of the UK’s most selective schools are something different. But for broader comparisons, I think many places in the world have converged and are offering much of the same.
As alluded to, people may view a country/university as a temporary place to study and work for a few years before returning home. In this case, one may think differently than if they are targeting a country for long-term immigration purposes. -

For a different educational and living experience, opportunity to meet people from all over the world, living away from parents, immersing in other cultures, experiencing a different mentality, outlook and way of life?

Costs of studying abroad are soaring, so is Singaporeans’ quest for an overseas degree

How much value one derives from an overseas education / exposure, is a personal conviction and decision each family will weigh and decide how much one is or is not willing to pay for it.
Not everyone is so motivated by pay. Neither my husband, myself or my daughter thought about starting (or eventual) pay when deciding whether to study overseas. We considered the experience and exposure good value overall.
That said, I don't think there is a simple formula or equation for university & starting or eventual pay. -
Based on the kids I know, studying overseas is just the start of a life overseas. Does not seem difficult for them to find a job, more than 1 offer received.
For others, they decided life overseas is not so suitable for them and though they have (good) job offers overseas, prefer to be back.
Think the opportunity to live overseas help kids grow and learn/understand themselves better.
