My second daughter is in P5 and in a GEP school in the east with a cohort of 19 students. She asked each and everyone of them last year and none took a GEP preparatory course. (Yes, she actually surveyed each and everyone)

Is it an Easterner thing? or some Gep schools more atas and competitive?

Just to set the context clear, both my girls never had tuition or academic enrichment. But have plenty of sports, music, dance and art classes. Yes I do identify as kiasu because I loaded them with hundreds of P6 prelims and psle papers since P3 and go thru with them myself. FYI, all of us suck at MO.

I am not against any enrichment or tuition at all. Just saying GEP preparatory courses are bullshit.

      😂 flame away… 🔥

      Wah.
      19 kids in a class.
That’s a nice thing to have - smaller teacher to kids ratio.

Don’t know if it’s an eastern Vs western thing
but naturally bigger class = more kiasu classmates / parents.

All the GEP schools usually have at least around 45-50 kids per cohort, Nanyang and Rosyth being bigger traditionally.
Each class may have around 15GE+rest MS, which in recent years are \"integrated\" classes (half GE, half HA Mainstream)

Oh I didn’t know that nowadays GEP classes are mixed so much. Even during nephew’s time (grad from GEP as recent as 2021) the classes won’t mixed iirc.

              I heard
              Got one GE center

              Maybe 50+ kids
              Spread among 9 classes.

That’s a real mixed form class format.

                  Parent of a gepper here.

Definitely surprised that NickleBee Tutors is not included in the list of GEP prep providers.

The principal is an ex-gepper. I was told that they have close to a 100% record of getting kids into the GEP.

Interestingly their GEP prep course is not advertised openly and interested parties must get a referral before going through an interview and selection test.

AFAIK, the NickleBee Tutors GEP prep course is conducted one-to-one by the principal. Rates are eye-popping and way out of my budget, so I signed up with Mind Stretcher instead.

It was just a random list, not meant to be comprehensive. The purpose is to highlight how common GEP prep is.
But yes, you are right about the common tactic to get a high success %. They pre-select students.

Yes I agree. Have not heard of more than 3-4 classes being integrated. It will be a logistics nightmare.
FYI, the integrated classes are only together for the non-academic subjects like CCE, PE, etc
GEP kids re-assemble for English, Math, Science AND Chinese.
