Yes , at primary school age, parents decide, students rarely volunteer

Looking at how student A and C progressed in GEP’s screening/selection process and their PSLE results, it seem the process is not error proof: student A went further in the GEP selection process than student C but score lesser (very slightly) than student C is PSLE. Unless student A got pass 1st round screening as the 10 percentile performer and student C failed the screening as the 10.01 percentile performer.

I personally knew these students from the same primary school:
Student A took GEP selection test, went through 1st round but not 2nd round
Student B did not take GEP selection test.
Both students got 265 for PSLE.
Student C took GEP selection test and didn’t pass 1st round. Got 266 for PSLE.

Any P3 students can volunteer for the GEP selection test? Or any parents know what is the shortlisting criteria for GEP selection test? By academics performance till P3? Or there will be some pre aptitude test that shortlists students based on creativity or something?

But from your questions (specifically how a kid goes for the GEP test), it is clear that you don't know how the GEP selection process works.

Indeed, this suggests strongly that you are/was not a parent (of kids around P3 age at least)
Are you even in Singapore?

I think it is not good if you throw inaccurate/uninformed info all over the place.
The GEP is not to train selected students to ace the PSLE.

Hmm. it’s quite like parents asking what is the success rate of GEP prep schools on this forum. All of us can google for that too. Part of my intention is to start the discussion here, playing “devil advocate” even I have my own answers already. To invite further discussion so as to hear other perspectives that I may overlooked

while
GEP prep class success rate is a claim by the Tuition Centre's owner / PR team.

I think you might have confused all the parents here when you used the term ‘GEP selection test’ which we would have associated with the second round of test conducted by MOE whilst what you actually intended to say was pretest for admission into a prep center. Correct ?
