Alamak….my daughter wants to go there study in uni for 5y…….will she be “poisoned” by the radiation?is this another consideration to say no to her?

No, if I were your dd, I would say, Japan's population is 125.7 million and do you mean all these 125.7 million people will be poisoned?

For some perspective, the Japanese themselves have no where else to get their food, other than their own seas. If they are ok to eat their local produce & harvests, shouldn’t be a concern lah.

I personally don’t care even if the food is imported into SG. I will still eat, unless I am pregnant & out of concern for the developing foetus. Plenty of other imported food is contaminated with all sorts of chemical waste that we dont know about anyway. I only stay away from shellfish since they are known to accumulate toxins (regardless of source).

The last time I accompanied my hubby overseas during a biz trip was like more than 10 years ago! Kiddies still in kindergarten then. Now I can’t 放生 them yet. Travelling can come later. Better than my body is away yet my mind is constantly thinking what are my monkeys are doing at home.

Say 放纵 not 放生, your house is not zoo and kids are not animals.

I agree with this. The world is full of dangers, and we cannot avoid all of them. It's really up to each individual to determine their level of risk tolerance. If the individual chooses to avoid everything that could potentially harm his health, however small the risk, then he has to accept the limitations on his diet. Anyway, why do we want to live so long?

Hahaha thanks. Actually I am not concerned too……kids big Liao and can make own decisions, we are there as listeners only and to tell them they are responsible for their own decisions.

oh dear ... is prawn spared fr the shellfamily?
crabs,lobsters are rubbish eaters, scavengers - but very expensive rubbish
or those with closed hard shell more toxic eg mussles, abalone, clams .

Prawns are also filter-feeders/scavengers and super “dirty”. I have reared aquarium shrimp before: sometimes we forgot to feed them but they will still be busy eating all the rubbish debris in the tank, their own poop, and also the discarded shells which they outgrow and shed. They don’t die easily because can survive on anything and everything. They’re not called “pigs of the sea” for nothing.

I used to love oysters but now too turned off by them also.

There are many courses but in Jap only. English taught courses/degrees are rather limited. Of course, their international rankings are not high so unless one is a fanatic, nobody talks about pursuing a Jap degree edn in SG cos NUS/NTU are perceived to be of much higher quality.
