Dear all, if affordability is a consideration for IP schools. For independent schools with $400/month sch fees, aren't there financial assistance which the family can apply for with the school?
Wonder if there is any FAS and what's the household income requirement for these IP schools?
Less than $10000 total household monthly income or less than $2500 per capita gross monthly household income (ie divided by number of household members) -

There are people I know who get FAS. But the FAS only covers school fees and some basic materials. The parents may also have to worry about other factors like the child's ability to catch up/fit in and I don't think the FAS covers tuition.

I checked the cut-off for SNGS for IP track is 4(D) - 7(M) and SEC is 5 - 8. In that case, for someone getting AL5, it wouldn’t be because these girls are aiming for second chance for RI-JC and HCI-JC cuz with AL5 for PSLE, they could have gone to RGS & RI-JC or Nanyang & HCI-JC which has cut-off of 6 and 7D? So these group of students deliberately chose SEC over IP and it’s not because they don’t want to go to Euonia and aiming for 2nd chance at RI/HCI JC. They could also have easily gone to MGS if they wanted IB.
For those who chose SEC MGS with AL6, I believe distance shouldn’t play a part if they wanted IP as SCGS, NJC, Nanyang are not that far from MGS so other than being an MGS fan, wondering why they deliberately chose SEC over IP. your explanation that they put it as 1st n 2nd choice makes the most sense or perhaps it’s due to special cca offered in MGS like artistic swimming.
Just wanted to know the thought process of those who deliberately choose SEC vs IP/IB.zac's mum\" post_id=\"2117727\" time=\"1693302083\" user_id=\"53606:
From School Finder
MGS IB track: 4-6
MGS SEC (O level track): 6-8 (non-affiliates); 7-17 (affiliates)
I pointed out the above to highlight the fact that no one scoring 4 or 5 applied for MGS O level track. Those at 6 could have applied for both as 1st and 2nd choice, respectively, hence some got in IB track while those balloted out got their 2nd choice of O level track. The group who are MGS fans, do not voluntarily choose O levels over IB track.
There are other dual-track schools where the O level track is more popular than the IP track. This is because the partner JC (Eunoia JC) is not attractive to them. They are aiming to get a 2nd chance, 4 years later, to enter RI-JC or HCI-JC, failing which, NYJC.
I’m not sure if Australian uni foundation courses accept internal Y4 school results from IB/IP schools. But for UK, I heard some 6th form colleges do look at IP Y3 results, and/or set entrance exams for foreign students. Already know of several RGS girls going this route.
-
Thanks for listing the reasons. For No 1, I agree it could be the case except for those that choose O over Ip in dual track schools cuz then distance is no longer a factor.
This website states: Students are awarded the ESIS for:
4 years, if they are in the O-Level programme.
6 years, if they are in the 6-year programme.
https://www.moe.gov.sg/financial-matters/awards-scholarships/edusave-scholarships-independent
I assume 6 year programme include all local IP/IB schools?manorway\" post_id=\"2117741\" time=\"1693308086\" user_id=\"9303:
Other reasons why some may choose O levels over IP when their PSLE scores can qualify:
- IP schools are too far when there is a really convenient school that they like right by their door step
- No ESIS for AL6 even if one goes to IP school and the fees are considered a bit too much compared to Express school nearby
- the AL6 was unexpected. Kid always scored worse. So parents/kid not confident kid will continue to do so well and may crumble under stress if join IP school
- Always prefer O levels as it is more structured and scoring AL6 or not is irrelevant
- Have not decided whether to do A levels or IB so stay in Express will give kid another 4 years to decide
- think it is better to be top of a school than to join IP and be the bottom of cohort.
All above are based on true stories. -

ESIS is for Independent Schools, and does not include all IP schools (all three IP(IB) schools happen to be Independent Schools).

Here is a list of the Independent Schools.

There are also the Specialised Independent Schools, such as NUSH, SOTA, SST, and SSP. ESIS should apply at NUSH, SOTA, and SST. I am not sure about SSP.
ESIS the last two years has been AL5. -

Not yet, still waiting. I think should be next week if no updates today. I heard many secondary schools are having teachers' day celebration today instead of tomorrow due to the polling on Friday. Probably the Admin is busy. 🙏
Hi all,
Just wonder anyone received any rejection email from SCGS or any updates from them? -
The wait is driving me crazy
