Hi, any advise how to improve on S&T? Despite doing past year papers, marks is still not good as there's a wide variety of question types. Any good assessment boom to recommend?
This book has a lot of different question types and is good for self-practice. I don't think there is a ton of instruction or explanation, but if the child can understand the past corrections, it is an OK way to practice.

Unfortunately, I don't recall any good S&T books with teaching or explanations (some were quite bad).

I think the good thing for the exam is that maybe three or so of the questions tend to be straightforward (of course, every kid is different), and it is usually only one or two that are (or can be) tricker. There is some luck involved in exactly which type of question SEAB decides to throw at you that day, and if it is one the child is somewhat better at.

The main thing is don't lose your nerve or get rattled if there are one or two tough ones. One can withstand missing a question or two; it's when the anxiety starts to impact the rest of the paper that things can be tough (although I guess this section is towards the back of the second paper on EL day).

Good luck! The book should also be in Popular stores (based on prior years).

        Hi SG_KP1,

Thank you for your advise and sharing. I will check that book out. To us, S&T is like a mine field. One wrong move and marks will be gone!

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations for the above.

Practically speaking, at this stage the kids are who they are. We kind of know what they are good at and what they find more challenging. Target the revision on moving questions that are 50:50 to 65:35 - 75:25. It's hard to get stuff from 0:100 to 100:0 at this point.

Get adequate sleep, eat healthy, and have a positive attitude. The child's ability to control his/her nerve and emotions over 4-5 days will probably swing things just as much.

            Good luck!

My child attended this last year. For your consideration:

Look at the past mistakes to identify the types of S&T your child struggles with.

Many children just do corrections and know the answers for THAT question but they may not understand WHY their answers are wrong. They know their answers are different from model answers but cannot explain/understand WHY the answers must be written in a particular way. This understanding is crucial otherwise you can do more papers and not make any difference.

Since there is so little time left to PSLE, I don't recommend doing the entire new assessment book on S&T. 10 hours spent on this is 10 hours less to spend on other subjects. Use the limited revision time wisely. Use the assessment book to provide more questions of the TYPES that your child needs practice on and just work on those.

There are some types of S&T questions that are harder/more unusual. Your child can identify them for sure. Study those.

Hope the above helps your child.

He attended Science only (not Math). His Science grade improved from AL5 (beginning P5 to prelim) to AL4 (psle). I dunno where your child is or what your expectations are, but to me that was a welcome boost, affordable and online too.

                      Hi Manorway,

Thank you do much for your sharing. Yes, you are right about the limited time left and it feels like there is still so much to study 😞 can't wait for the exam to be over. It has been quite tiring since the Oral and Prelims.

Hang in there…just a little while more to go! I felt exactly the same last year. Regarding EL, we managed to get 10 mark improvement (from AL4 to AL2) not from S&T but rather from Compo, using a more unique storyline which can stand out from the crowd. That is a slightly easier way to do it (less drilling practice involved).
