I find that the IF/fasting benefits, fm what I read now, actually quite different from what I understand all these while. Growing up our parents always say must eat proper meals don't skip etc and true even my mom has gastric when she was young likely due to irregular meal time/skipping meals.
Now when we google..it seems that we don't need to eat so much/let our body have more time without food etc..and that have own benefits.. Ikr it is quite 'confusing'.. but true la..maybe I shouldn't go to extreme side coz once we have gastric think it will follow us.
Traditionally, people ate 3 meals a day. They fasted for nearly 12 hours every 24 hours. There was less constant snacking. That's fairly close to IF. I think that long-term fasting of 20 hours a day is probably going to lead to some gastric issues, especially for those who are prone to it. I would say be moderate - once you start getting gastric pains, the damage may already be done.
That aside, I am actually quite surprised I could fast.. before this, I really eat non stop..quite rarely to have my stomach rest for say 2-3hrs. Now I cook everyday, dabao food and they eat in front of me..plus I kept searching for recipes coz we have family special 'feast' days almost every month this year.
Be careful not to go from one extreme to the other. Just because eating constantly isn't good, eating too infrequently is not good either. I think you should stick to a 16/8 IF regime (if you want to do IF) for at least 2-3 weeks before deciding to try another regime (which you should follow steadily for another 2-3 weeks to allow your body to adjust). I don't think you gave the 16/8 regime much of a trial. The aim is to accustom your body to the new regime of eating less frequently, not to see how long you can go without food.
Yes I will be more sensitive towards issues like gastric pain..think no need ask doctor ba..so far ok.
I had my checks on few organs think last or before last year.
Btw, how often do we need to chk those organs to ensure no bleeding etc?
No idea. I have my own personal opinions, which I won't share here. But again, don't wait to see bleeding before adjusting your lifestyle. It's best to choose one that you know to be generally safe and prevent bleeding from happening in the first place.
Funz leh? Think she is did some IF also.. -

Thanks..I will google on the bleeding issues. Seems a concern and it never crosses my mind. -
Some benefits I would like to share with you ladies… it really helps with getting back some of our waist. I don’t know if it will be back to near our old normal but quite visible even though weight don’t really go down alot…that makes me imagine it is burning fats inside. But no need prolonged fast la as that may cause some health concerns.

I would like to put a note here…my BMI is officially back to Normal range this morning.

Congratulations! Just find a reasonable regime of diet and activity that will maintain this. No need for heroic measures to reduce more. What I find works for me is to have a way to reduce the excess weight gained over the weekends (about 0.5 to 1 kg), and keep the fluctuations within that band.

Thanks. When the pain got restarted recently..I was feeling bloated chked BMI crossed to overweight range le. At that time I just thought it may be my weight putting too much pressure on my foot.

Then don't remember how I got to know IF and just start it then google on it. And think my menopause fats haven't come yet..so i think it should be a good process overall and luckily you ladies brought up some good points for me to consider while doing it. -

Wah... how you managed that? In a matter of a week or two? Right now, my Galaxy watch finally shows I'm slightly \"normal\" from the overweight trend I've been on for YEARS

And this, mind you, is after the daily 5km walks I make every day for 5 years.

Good that you are seeing some positive results from your IF MrsKS.
My approach with IF is not as a short term diet but a long term change in eating habits. Think I started in 2019 and am still sticking to that same eating schedule. I managed to lose about 4kg when I started IF coupled with a low carbo diet. When I reached my desired weight, I eased up on my diet but stuck with the 16/8 schedule and I’ve been able to keep my weight rather constant. I do go off the schedule during holidays and festive seasons or when I am under the weather and have been able to keep the pounds off. The 1st few weeks were tough but once I got used to it, I noticed the benefits, not only the weight loss but I did not have daily headaches and lesser migraines. I have lesser cravings as well, maybe cos I eat better at main meals. I don’t have any issues with 三高so cannot say much about that but I know of quite a few people who say it helped.
I do not think I will be able to sustain a 24-48 hour IF routine and it will end up being a short term attempt and the weight may pile back on eventually. -
I think the NTUC Chef brand Kailan packs have shrunken significantly? Used to be 300g previously but today each pack is only 200g? My family can eat 2packs per meal. I think now need to buy 3packs. It is a waste of the packaging plastic.
