Hysterectomy was recommended to a friend who was anaemic since her cycle was going haywire and she was losing too much blood.

Pardon me but how do we know when the onset of menopause is?

It's good to know that there are treatments, but I can't help as I didn't do anything about it. I think I didn't have it too badly. Since every woman experiences it differently, I think it's up to each one to decide what and how much to medicate.
I still remember we talked abt it few years ago. I was then got a 'shock'..NO..not when I was abt to pass that stage and need to anticipate/endure for another 10years. I hope it won't happen so badly too. At my age, it should be very near by now. So far still feeling ok.i just hope that when it is time to stop, just stop.

I am going thru it right now.

Aunty M went missing for 3 mths then came for a prolonged visit this mth. I noticed my moods being off kilter last year and am more prone to muscle cramps. There were a few episodes of mild hot flashes. I started taking supplements meant for women going through menopause and I think it does help some.

Elder sis has been going through all these meno symptoms for the last 2 years. At her latest checkup, they found that the cyst that has been there since her 20s has grown by about 1cm since her last check. Gynae recommended that she go for a full hysterectomy. My initial thought was that was kinda extreme since we do not have any family history of cancer, there was no mention even of doing a biopsy or anything, just straight recommendation for removal. The gynae's logic is just remove since over and done with child birthing and already in menopause, then you have 1 less organ to worry about cancer developing. I am not discounting her gynae's logic but every surgery carries a risk, why subject yourself to such a risk if there is no need. Maybe just need to find out more since with all the advancement in medical technology, the risks may be a lot lesser. 🤷
          You’re still so young! Admire!

I’d normally go for 2nd opinion esp with many young doc looking for more ops to chalk up experiences. I always fall back on Dr Tham Kok Fun who was UK trained & will always put his patients interests first. I’ve thereafter read many many accolades about him then realized I trusted the right surgeon.

Menopause symptoms occur roughly in the 40s-50s. You can only really know when menopause occurred (12 mths since the last period) in hindsight! I think those of you young enough not to have started yet should just not think about it too much. You may be one of those who don't have it too bad. Time enough to consider things like surgery when you have to.

Now, that's something I have never thought about! Something to ask your doctor, I guess. Maybe you will have to make a guess at some point to stop, then see what happens?
