If your child gets AL6, will get into NJC instead? But got 7 options?
I just list out all schools shortlisted, if she gets al6, more headache for us, haha.. national JC is the farthest, I stay in Pg.. will take more than 1hr traveling daily for her.. really not a good choice considering the amount of time on the road ..will be damn tiring for her with those heavy jc load.. -

My guess.. moe have all the scoring and numbers. Your al1 may not be the same as my al1 if base on scoring. And knowing they like to use number to rank, not hard for them to decides who get in first even both student score the same Al..
Yes, that is correct.
The student with the higher AL score will always go first.
The “problem” with the AL score system, however, is that you will see a bunching up of scorers around 15 to 20 due to the way the AL points are distributed. Hence, rank placement for schools in that zone can become a lot more tricky. -

I feel that if she loves the school, she may be more willing to travel.

I am not a conspiracy theorist. Besides, I may have a little bit more faith in our civil service and system for apolitical matters.

The problem is really a mathematical one. One, the AL scores are not distributed evenly - the lower scores are narrowly defined (~ 5points) whereas the higher scores are widely defined (by as much as 20 points). Two, there are more combinations to score 15 points whereas there are only so many ways you can score 8 points. -
Like the older gurus used to spout in ksp (and now i can also say with hindsight), it wont matter after your kid is in Sec 1. It’ll be a different ball game & syllabus. My kid is thriving despite going to lower tier school. When life gives u lemons, make lemonade & add your own sugar to sweeten what u gotta swallow.
All the best to those collecting results on Wed! -
Assuming distance is not a consideration and the kid is only thinking of going to Express (G3) and not IP, can anyone with insights share how you will choose which CHIJ sec school to go to please?
Often people advise choose a school that has CCA that kids like, but for some kids, the CCA does not matter much. How to choose?
How can we find out more about the schools’ O levels results? Thanks in advance. -
Something for considerations for G3 students taking O levels in sec 4,
Often students and parents do not take notice of subjects offered by the schools among those we have shortlisted. Largely because we cannot predict which subjects will our kids likely be more interested.
There are also schools whose criteria are more stringent than others in choosing different combi. So it will be useful to take a look at their sec 2 briefing notes. For example, students who score below 65% overall can only select a total of 7 subjects, vs the better ones can choose 8 subjects.
What are the criteria for choosing pure sciences etc?
Some schools offer DnT, FoodnN, POA, some dont.
If one is taking 3rd foreign lang, what is the criteria to take 9 subjects?
What is the criteria to take A math?
This year, one I know got stuck with limited choices without prior knowledge on the above. But as far as I know FSBB seem to allow more flexibility so it may become no issue from next year. Wonder if those SAP schools have any limitation in subj combi then? -

If kid is indifferent, doesnt matter which school as long as the standard is acceptable, then why must choose NJC if TJC is more feasible. One do not need to choose based on COP, if you have attended enough P talk you would have heard to same advice. AL6 can still go TJC. TJC's score range for sec 1 posting in 2023 was AL5 - AL9, there are even AL5 students choosing TJC, he could have gone to RI or RGS so TJC must be his first choice.

Could be a non citizen, so no ESIS. Still... if TJC is nearer to our home, the school (not stream) likely will be in our consideration too; whether the school and culture are suitable, not because it is IP. I believe, mid IP and top O are not much different in terms of workload and expectations (my personal view only)
V few non sap schools and non IS schools around. -
Used to be at school open houses, P will share about the school results at the talk. How abt now?
-
Any idea for those pure express schools, when turned FSBB next year, how many classes would be allocated to each stream?
Wonder how will turning FSBB affect vacancies and COP.
