actually i have no problem with TJC but the so call temporary school at Tampines JC for 4yrs worries me. with such a huge movement, i worry it affect her 1st year which imo is very crucial for her to set-in into sec school life... in fact, tampines JC is one o the closest and easiest for her on transport wise..
Ic, I am not familiar with the area and location. In what ways the move worries you? The perm site is too far ? since you mentioned the temp site is closest to your location. In which year is TJC moving away and moving back?

seriously, i'm not so deep into what you have mentioned, never bother to ask about subjects, etc.. just purely school that i'm comfortable with .. i didnt even bother to find out more on CCA etc, that will be secondary... 😄 i quite bochap type i guess...haha
It will not be an issue for those sec 2s with good results.
But in case some are still figuring out esp the high 10s AL, not getting better grades, it will affect the selection in some ways which differs in different schools.

If kid is indifferent, doesnt matter which school as long as the standard is acceptable, then why must choose NJC if TJC is more feasible. One do not need to choose based on COP, if you have attended enough P talk you would have heard to same advice. AL6 can still go TJC. TJC's score range for sec 1 posting in 2023 was AL5 - AL9, there are even AL5 students choosing TJC, he could have gone to RI or RGS so TJC must be his first choice.

Could be a non citizen, so no ESIS. Still... if TJC is nearer to our home, the school (not stream) likely will be in our consideration too; whether the school and culture are suitable, not because it is IP. I believe, mid IP and top O are not much different in terms of workload and expectations (my personal view only)
V few non sap schools and non IS schools around.
            Tjc gives 1k if AL6<

My niece’s school is just across a 2 lane road opposite her house yet she is late for school sometimes. It’s not how far the school is. It’s more on self discipline. If kids don’t turn in early and stay up late on gadgets , even when parents drive them to school daily they will still feel tired from late nights.

Assuming distance is not a consideration and the kid is only thinking of going to Express (G3) and not IP, can anyone with insights share how you will choose which CHIJ sec school to go to please?

Often people advise choose a school that has CCA that kids like, but for some kids, the CCA does not matter much. How to choose?

How can we find out more about the schools' O levels results? Thanks in advance.
By reputation alone (which i believe is tied to the o level results; no longer published nowadays), the only CHIJ which is SAP (SNGS) would be the “best”, followed by CHIJ TPY (top rep among non-Chinese), followed by all the rest.

Something for considerations for G3 students taking O levels in sec 4,

Often students and parents do not take notice of subjects offered by the schools among those we have shortlisted. Largely because we cannot predict which subjects will our kids likely be more interested.

There are also schools whose criteria are more stringent than others in choosing different combi. So it will be useful to take a look at their sec 2 briefing notes. For example, students who score below 65% overall can only select a total of 7 subjects, vs the better ones can choose 8 subjects.
What are the criteria for choosing pure sciences etc?
Some schools offer DnT, FoodnN, POA, some dont.
If one is taking 3rd foreign lang, what is the criteria to take 9 subjects?
What is the criteria to take A math?

This year, one I know got stuck with limited choices without prior knowledge on the above. But as far as I know FSBB seem to allow more flexibility so it may become no issue from next year. Wonder if those SAP schools have any limitation in subj combi then?
As far as i know (correct me if I’m wrong), the SAP schools only offer pure sciences, no combined science. Also, they do not offer DnT, NFS, POA these kind of Others subjects (which are typically offered only by the lower tier Express schools). These are usually for those aiming to go Poly.

As for number of subjects, i believe in SAP schools the norm is 8 subjects; the weaker ones do 7; while the spectacular appeal to do 9. In lower tier express schools, the norm is 7, and 6 for the weaker ones.

So if a child is academically good (at the Math & Science subjects), choose a higher tier school, otherwise come Sec 3 won’t get to do the “JC track” range of O level academic subjects.

Thanks. Any idea why CHIJ TP is top rep amongst the rest non-SAP?

                        Not necessary.

Top O level schs offer DnT, POA and FnN too. Bukit Panjang Gov High, Anderson Sec, Swiss Cottage, all with COP of AL11. Come 2024 CGS with FSBB shld be similar too.
These subjects are popular among good students too for a good reason. Many good in Maths will take POA and still can go JCs.
