Hi.. DS has scored AL10. We are looking at following options with COPs

      1. TJC IP - 9
      2. ACS Independent O - 8
      3. Victoria School O - 10
      4. St Andrews O - 10
      5. SJI O - 10
      6. ACS Barker O - 10

One of the consideration is Mother Tongue (Hindi). First 4 schools have it on campus during school hours. Last 2 don't and hence he will be required to take Sat classes.

Would appreciate guidance on this thought process.
Most here would agree that your son may not get any of the 6 schools.

Your options 5 and 6 must be safety schools at 12-14 range. Because of FSBB some schools may see a lower AL cutoff. What was last year 13 may become 12 or 11 in some schools.

Based on your school choices, I am assuming you live in Punggol or Sengkang. Why not cast your net wider and consider other even better schools, since your son has a very good score of AL9?

        Consider the following schools:
        1. Victoria School (offers chess as a CCA)
        2. Catholic High
        3. St Joseph's Institution
        4. Temasek JC
        Much appreciate!

Congrats on the good result. With al9, and from those you listed, I guess you live in Pg/sk. I would definitely suggest you check out Anderson secondary (AL10) in amk which after an open house visit and read up, it's a good school to consider.
          Much appreciate!

Congrats! Based on feedback from other parents and some of my daughter’s classmates who have been in each school, I think RGS is a competitive environment where everyone is striving to study harder and do well while Nanyang is slightly more relaxed and the ties with HCI are quite strong. However MGS IB will allow your DS to spend 2 years in ACS(I) which could be beneficial and has the most interaction with opposite genders. However there is minimal interaction during the first 4 years while Nanyang and HCI regularly organise sports meets and other events together. Overall I would pick MGS IB as I really like the curriculum becoz it equips these youths better for real world situations and increased interaction with classmates as there are many group projects
Thank you for the insights. Sigh. Didn't know that choosing a secondary school is so stressful.

                Good day!

will Nan Chiau high school accept students who did not take High Chinese Language exam during PSLE?

                NCHS score range: 5(D)-12
                Kid scored 9

Bing AI replies without HCL, NCHS rejects…

I know that the Non affiliated Cop may fluctuate… What about the affiliated cop?

Does anyone know if that can fluctuate too?
Eg. If the affiliated Cop is 10-12 and the kid scores AL13. Is there any chance at all that he/she will make it through?

Trying to figure out if for affiliated kids, they take in all the affiliated kids (up to 12) and leave the rest for non affiliated (ensuring at least 20%)

Or do they leave 20% for non affiliated and then can take up to 80% of the affiliated even those that score above the prev Yrs cop if there is space.

                  Thanks in advance!

Try MOE school finder and key in the sch name under secondary. If the subjects they offer include Chinese Language and Higher Chinese, students should be allowed to choose accordingly. Some sap schools may only offer Higher Chinese.

Don't think anyone who meet the COP will be rejected based on higher Chinese in sg. For those sap schools only offer HCL, students have to take up HCL, no option to take CL. That's all.
Hope this helps. All the best.

Chances for schools in this range highly depends on demand by current p6 choosing the schools. If more put in NY, then the better students get in first hence COP will improve.

Is it true I heard there is no more O level or N level and everyone takes a 4y programme no more sec 5. The national exams are administered and set locally by MOE based on G1/2/3 contents?
Yes to 2nd qn, from 2024 sec 1 cohort onwards. See news dated 05 Mar 2019,
GCE O- and N-Level exams to be replaced by new national common exam in 2027.

You may be correct, see extracted below.

Mr Ong said that for these students, going to Sec 5 and taking the GCE O-level examination is a pathway to polytechnics and JCs.

However, with the subject-based banding system, the plan is to get students to go through a four-year curriculum by the time the new system takes effect in 2024.

The MOE will explore other alternatives to a fifth year in secondary schools so that students can enter post-secondary institutions.

One such alternative is having a similar programme to the Polytechnic Foundation Programme, which allows the top 15 per cent of the Sec 4 Normal (Academic) cohort to do a foundational year in the polytechnics before pursuing their diploma courses.
